    Video stopped working

So, as I alluded to earlier today, I quickly stumbled upon a working combination of config settings right after I posted for help here. Funny how things work that way! :) Hopefully someone else someday finds this useful. In my testing, I have found that: VLC does not care if the stream...

    Video stopped working

Yep...I did stumble upon the ONVIF user directory. Good advice on avoiding the @ symbol in your password as it is a delimiter in the URL.

    Video stopped working

Yes, I did avoid annoying problems with password URL-encoding. Always a good call out though.

    Video stopped working

Huh! Funnily enough right after posting this morning I did get a stream going in VLC. I'll post here a bit later on the settings I manipulated, and what I have found to work or not.

    Video stopped working

I played with this quite some time last night and didn't have any success. I've verified that port 554 is open I've tried enabling/disabling "RTSP over TLS" -- if disabled, VLC will continuously prompt me for credentials even though I have them in the URL I made sure that the streams are...

    Video stopped working

I've tried several iterations with VLC and keep getting an error saying "Your input can't be opened" I have enabled RTSP over TLS. I've also switched the encoding to H.264, though I'm not sure if that actually matters. What else do I need to do?

    Video stopped working

VLC is probably the most frictionless method for me. Thanks!

I tried installing it on a Windows server VM and it would not launch. What kind(s) of OS do you use?

What is the use case of an SD card with BI?

I have a IPC-T5442T-ZE. That camera can accept up to a 256GB card. Is there a reason other than cost, perhaps, to avoid the maximum capacity?

    Video stopped working

Is there a better or more stable playback method? I haven't set up BI yet. I tried to install and run Smart PSS but that didn't seem to work. I don't know if it's even a good idea to trust that software...

    Video stopped working

I did try re-logging. That did not work. I rebooted the VM hosting the browser and video was restored. This makes me think something went haywire with the browser plugin.

    Video stopped working

I just set up my new IPC-T5442T-ZE camera today. I haven't done much more than set the IP. Video was working in the browser, but when I came back from dinner it was not. I'm not sure what's going on. I know the camera is streaming successfully. I can hear audio, and if I zoom, I can hear the...

What is the use case of an SD card with BI?

Can someone please enlighten me? Is the idea that if BI were to have an outage, you have a backup recording? I've seen some suggest that SD storage isn't reliable?

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

I started a new thread where I discussed testing the Reolinks at night and found significant problems with them. I'm returning them. Instead, I've bought a 5442 model Dahua and will experiment with it around the house to determine what I'll buy next.

Right back to square one :(

Thanks, fellas. I appreciate the quick responses. I'm going to place an order.

Right back to square one :(

Can I apply firmware updates to those cameras from Dahua, or am I running a risk of bricking them? I.e. are these gray market?

Right back to square one :(

Ok, so next dumb question: if I want to purchase one of the cameras from the list by @SouthernYankee ...where is the best place? What is the difference between Dahua and Loryta? A lot of these models look like they are rebranded?

Right back to square one :(

Yes, I really see how tuning the cameras can vastly improve motion and image quality at night. I just got done watching a video of someone doing that with a 5442.

Right back to square one :(

I don't require full color at night. I have no problem with IR for night vision. Some areas of my property have decent lighting and others are pitch black. I'll start looking at the 5442 camera. I had some Hikvision cameras in the past. They seemed decent but wow I hated the bizarre...

Right back to square one :(

I started another thread where I shared that I recently bought some Reolink cameras. In a nutshell, the feedback in that thread about Reolink cameras at night is true. Motion at night is blurry and choppy. I'm going to return the cameras. This is a big disappointment given their perceived value...

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

No, I hadn't seen that thread. However, I did rely heavily on one of his review videos in making my decision to purchase the Reolink. Is there some other reference you can point me at? The Reolinks are priced well, but it's not too late to go in another direction.

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

Does this guy's approach to using AI for reliable motion detection at all mediate the concern?
  25. T

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

Yes, I understand that now. If I understand Reolink's specs correctly, my sub-stream resolution would be 640x480 which comes to about .307 MP. As for all the Reolink criticism, I'm going to run some tests with the camera to see if the images look good to me. I've seen plenty of favorable...

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

Yes, I would run the latest, stable version of BI.

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

For clarity's sake, I'm trying to follow the CPU guidance given here: Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris It seems as though his basic calculation only hinge upon knowing the MP of the camera and the fps of the stream. Am I mistaken?
  29. T

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

How could I measure the MP/s of the sub streams? I do not have BI set up yet.
  30. T

Am I calculating this right? MP/s

Ugh. Let me reframe the question. I'm trying to decide how powerful of a CPU I will need for BI. I really do no wish to get bogged down on brand of camera. I absolutely will take the above advice to heart. Let's pretend I had some other camera system whose sub stream was 6fps at 5MP. Let's say...
