So I just moved into a new place and the landlord is less than helpful regarding the cameras installed on the building. I have gotten into the system with the intention of setting up mobile/ remote monitoring but the NVR doesn't provide much info.
The model # on the cameras doesn't turn up any...
there is conduit in the ground for the long run already. Hard to say what killed it. Its been many years. In theory I can pull new with the old line in the ground. It has a 15' vertical drop over that distance and it definitely hits the water table as the house is on a canal. Im investing in...
thank you for the detailed reply. I have settled on zero wifi cameras and making all new hard line runs + conduit. Its going to suck but I'll only have to do it once
I am setting up a system for my parents and need some help making sure I get the right cameras for the right locations. I have been reading through lots of threads, sticky's and wikis so I know enough to know I dont know enough.
I have settled on S3 Version IPC-T54IR-AS 2.8mm for a few short...
I definitely prefer Ethernet myself. I half-assed hoped there would be a good argument for wifi since I might be able to troubleshoot digitally from afar vs having no option to put hands on unless I'm on site.
Ok folks I have a task to complete for my aging parents (a few hundred miles away) and I am not sure what the best route is. Bear with me here this is a bit of a novel (sorry)
My goal is to have 7 cameras operating with as little maintenance/ complication as possible. I have been maintaining...
Nope. Like this
Shelly 1 Relay Switch, WiFi Smart Home Automation, Compatible with Alexa & Google Home, iOS Android App, No Hub Required, Wireless Light Switch, DIY Remote Control Garage Door, UL Certified https://a.co/d/3cD0g3t
Reporting back on this thread. I have setup both devices and understand exactly what is going on with this setup now. These things are pretty robust. I have encountered an issue, though. Device 1 is not triggering device 2 with the URL action. When I run the command in a URL bar it works fine...
The bridge and serial port mostly. Unsure what those are referring to. I assume the firmware will determine how the device functions and I'll just have to tinker with that once they arrive.
I have a Shelly 3 mini so I'm somewhat familiar with their devices but I don't recall it having a serial...
Interesting. The schematics are a tad confusing but I don't understand that device very well. Sounds like I need to get a couple in my hands and figure em out. Thanks!
Hmm yeah something like that. I think I can manage the alarm end if I can figure out what to use to receive the alarm and send a wireless signal. The Shelly 1 relay has that capability?
Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm trying to setup an audible alert in a room separate from my NVR. Id like to trigger the alarm from the NVR i/o and send the signal wirelessly to some sort of small alarm in another room that I can set to go off for a specified amount of time.
Maybe...
Dropping in to update. I've got the system working.
I honestly still don't understand (technically) how the wifi camera is talking to the NVR through the AP but it is. I'll accept magic as the answer for now until it breaks and I have to troubleshoot it. :)
Thank y'all so damn much for the help.
These are things I haven't considered because I didn't know they were options.
As for a nano station... Do you have an example? I could build an enclosure.
The power lines running there power many other items as well. Would that cause interference?
Gotcha. I certainly would prefer wired but the location is 70' away, it is covered but in a pretty extreme exposure environment open to wind, rain, and saltwater air. It used to be wired but has proven incredibly difficult to maintain wires to the location due to the water table, underground...
I haven't bought a camera yet because I want to make sure it and the system will work together first.
I guess I'm still unsure how this should work. Are you saying that the Netgear can act as the wireless access point to receive the signal, and then I can run a cable out of the Netgear to the...
Ok gotcha. I should be able to log into the camera and point it to the Netgear then. Is running the Netgear in AP mode what I need to do?
God I feel like a kindergartner here lol
Thank you for all the help this far, btw
Ok, so I'm not just dreaming here. That's helpful to know.
I don't mind buying more equipment (within reason) but was hoping to use what's on hand.
Is there something specific I need to look for in a wireless camera?
I'm hoping that when I power it up it'll be easy to link to the Netgear but I...
I doubt it will take anything outside of that. I was aiming to run to one of the 8 ports from the Netgear.
Is there a way to setup the Netgear to receive the wireless signal from a WiFi camera and pass it to the NVR via copper?
#3 is a cheap brotrends ac1200. It's running to a cheap 5port gigabit switch.
#3 is delivering internet to the NVR from an ISP provided router/modem from 2nd floor.
This is my parents house so I am trying to get their camera system back to 100% because they are old and crime is really picking...
I think my verbiage is incorrect here. I need to use the netgear r6400 as a receiver for the wifi camera. Can this be done so that I can pull the wifi signal from the camera and deliver it via cat 5 to the NVR?
