    Yes, I can see the boot process. And perhaps that's where I'm going wrong, I was pessing Control+U after powering on the unit. I will give that a try tomorrow.

    Null modem cable obtained. Pressing Ctrl+U does nothing inside of Putty. I assume because of the firmware was modified by Alibi from the stock firmware of Hikvision. Looking through the help segment I can see no mention of upgrade.

    Yes sir. Directly to the RS232 port. Hadn't considered the null modem cable as I've used a USB to RS232 cable before to access devices. Thanks for pointing out where I went wrong.
