I'm very interested in this too. I have tried many different fw, 5.3 english & chinese, 5.4, 5.4.5 they simply don't work. Even after the mtd hack, these cameras only work with the 5.2.5 (or 5.2.8). If anyone figures out a way to get 5.4+ fw on these camera, please share !! we need to get gmail...

I guess that will work, but will need me to find another provider (many like gmail don't work) and will probably be just temporary until they also stop supporting SSL. So, that's the backup plan if there is no way to upgrade. It just seems weird that it can't take any newer fw, even the official...
