Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

This weekend I installed the AirTap 4 (4" x 12") vent on top of my closet as well as a ReliaBilt 4"x12" Floor Register on the inside part. The drop in temp was nothing short of amazing! Because my equipment (which lacks any IP cams or PC for now) was at the top it was creating an oven. Now...

Question about A/V closet Ethernet terminations

    Good advice - thanks.

Question about A/V closet Ethernet terminations

I agree that more is not better, but my research has found that the punch downs have impedance matching circuit boards which helps with crosstalk and that plugs are just plastic with gold contacts. Patch cords are, apparently, better constructed than what one can do at home. Will check it out...

Question about A/V closet Ethernet terminations

Thanks for the info! I’m also going to be running some network cables but perhaps the cams aren’t as sensitive

Question about A/V closet Ethernet terminations

Little by little I'm planning for my IP camera install and have another question. I did some research and it seems that RJ45 plugs are the least reliable type of termination and accepted practices dictate to terminate the in-wall wiring at a punchdown, then use a patch cable from there. I see...

Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

Yea with my $27M AI cluster in my 3' x 6' closet I may need some more cooling...we'll see ;) I re-read that post I linked and you do have to have a fan sucking out the air when the AC is off. So it's basically accomplishing the same thing except instead of dumping it into the room it goes into...

Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

With the AC going I can see how the return would pull air, but wondering how it would work with the AC off? I haven't had the AC on and the closet is hot so wonder if that would even help unless I put a fan to exhaust it into the new return line? In any case, I think this vent fan I got which...

Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

On other thought - I read another post online where people agreed the right thing to do was to put a register into the ceiling and have it run into the return line of the AC duct. It sounds like that is the right thing to do but it would be such a PITA for me to do that as the closet ceiling as...

Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

I ended up ordering the 4x12 because (as of today) it has a 20% coupon and makes it cheaper than the 4x10 ($47.99). One super bonus is it has a bluetooth app to program and monitor the temps! I checked with their customer service chat (which responded so quickly I thought it was a bot at...

Suggested vent for closet - if your closet gets too hot

Old post but...This looks perfect to put on the outside wall of my network gear closet. Anyone have experience with it? I assume I can run the wire back into the closet for power rather than sticking out the front?

Need a new camera system (noob)

Point taken! And I love your house. I’ve got a small 1 car garage, with 3 cars (2 sit in the driveway). Real estate is tight in my area. Since you have to be within 10 feet of a camera to access a vehicle I would need to think about the usefulness of zoom before they are out of frame (not...

Need a new camera system (noob)

Those are great and impressive examples- thanks for sharing. My property is not nearly as vast so I have to decide how far away I want to identify people. My current thought is about 40’ away (sidewalk across the street but any “kill boxes” I have are close to the house as I’m more concerned...

Need a new camera system (noob)

This is awesome info - thanks for responding! I only really have time on the weekends to research so I’ll post a more detailed reply then (along with a diagram of the plan). I have to think more about my use case as I’ve been pretty happy with my setup this far but you (and other threads make)...

Need a new camera system (noob)

I've done some cursory research and seems I came to the right place (found several super useful posts from @wittaj ) I have an old Q-See system which I've run for almost 10 years and it recently died. Worked fine, though low resolution (and low end I know). Since I'm upgrading, I figure I...
