Thanks for the advice @wittaj . Helpful as usual.

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Is this supposed to be some sarcastic joke? It's easy to fill the need to gang up with cheap jokes. What's difficult these days is for people to talk normally with thoughts that span beyond the 3 second attention span learned from tic toc. Btw, I tested the camera in white light, and still has...

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Flickers are random, so would need to keep the camera out for a while. It is also crazy cold now outside, it would cost more to reheat the house with a window open than this camera costed :)

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Alright, trying it without IR light, just white light, still in basement. Will have to decide next steps after that. Yes, I can try outside, but it means taking off another existing camera because I don't have free Ethernet cables. Trying it indoors behind a window will be problematic for IR...

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

The only settings I really changed was the frame rate and i-frame both at 15fps. The other stuff I may changed but put back to default later, the main try being the WDR. Video below shows the settings. I am not keen to test this camera outside because it needs non-trivial work to mount...

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Sorry to contradict you @wittaj but I flipped the camera upside down and that left camera still keeps flickering even though it is now pointing in the other direction. And the right camera has no flicker. Here is the video.

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Which one you suggest? The good 1/1.8 sensor has a distorted aspect ratio that I don't like, and costs 3-4 times this one from ANNKE. On top of that, the Empiretech has no IR or light, just external lighting. So, this cheaper ANNKE was not that bad on paper.

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

@wittaj there is nothing moving or changing, not even bugs. Why would the camera try to adjust when nothing changes? I can flip the camera upside down to see if that side still continues to flicker when on the other side.

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Ok, I bought the FCD600 from ANNKE, and turned out to be faulty. I set it up for testing purposes for a couple of days in a basement. The left camera has some sort of random flicker that triggers the basic motion detection. I have not tried putting the camera out to detect humans and cars...

Is the HIKVISION DS-2CD2387G2P-LSU/S a good 180 option? Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BTM4WMF9/?coliid=I2DTF9IFIH6MMA&colid=1E7S5PPT4AM5U&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it Is this the same as ANKEE NCD800?

So the more expensive Z12E has an older chipset (S2) than the less expensive Z4E (S3), right?

Which 180 degree camera to pick + other questions

Hi all, I have my eyes on 180 degree cameras to replace some old stuff. I wanted to get some thoughts or maybe new ideas. I have read several threads here and used @wittaj list in the thread here, but still need input. 1. The primary candidate is Emprietech Color4K-T180 1/1.8 sensors. I can...

Mounting to Soffit with no backing?

This was a how it looks after mounting. I didn't know about the flush mount, had to fight to fit it flush where it is now, with snow under my feet :)

Mounting to Soffit with no backing?

I also mounted mine. Coincidentally the old camera was close to a joist. I managed to find the exact line where the joist was above the soffit and put some long screws. It is holding with 3 screws on the joist, in line, and another 2 on the soffit with no support. Here is a pic of the place...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

Anyway, I am trying a new IVS based on intrusion detection of humans instead of tripwire. Will see how this goes.

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

The videos uploaded here are downsampled to 720p. The orignal is 1440p (4MP PTZ425DB-AT, Empiretech) with encoding as follows: What do you mean by making lines go across the street instead of vertical? I tried to put more frequent zig zags at the entrance points of the street in the frame.

Another issue with this camera: I label the presets and half a day later the names are back to Preset1, Preset2, etc. Not sure why it does not hold the preset names.

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

IVS setup, 5 rules from 2 presets total. Just showing the tripwire lines that normally trigger events. Example of person not being detected or tracked. This person walked the dog back few minutes later, the camera still did not pick it up. Another neighbor came out half an hour later and the...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

Here is the FOV. The problem is more at dusk and night. My SMD and MD are still on because I thought you need SMD to find humans and cars. I can switch them off. I think I saw rectangles for cars before, but I have not sat in front of the web gui to test it. Certainly the stream arriving...

Yes, I have checked those. I have different IVS rules for human and cars. What about SMD and regular MD, what are your settings there?

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

@wittaj can you help me whith what settings I should put on the PTZ425DB-AT to properly detect ONLY humans and cars? The camera is driving me crazy. Yesterday it triggered many events during rain at night. I followed your advice here to enable only IVS smart rules and disable SMD and motion...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

I didn't get your setup very well. Do you have auto focus during day and then you make it sit at the home preset before dusk to leave the manual focus stuck at that length before your night scene kicks in?
  26. B

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

Yup, agree. It defeats the purpose having PTZ presets and leaving the camera to find focus after switching to a preset. If I have a position I need, I also often know the focus it should be at that position.

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

@wittaj thanks for all your help. Your guidance and experience have been a great time saver. Based on your pics, I would guess you are using 1/1250 shutter or even faster, right? I have found my sweet spot at 1/1000 night and 1/1250 day. Another technical question: does a PTZ preset include the...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

Folks, by day this PTZ425 works great for LPR. I have set a few IVS rules and I can see plates very well (not automatic recognition, but I don't need to log numbers in a database). With this single PTZ I can look both at the car model/color (zoomed out before triggering the LPR preset) and...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

Thanks for Thanks for the recommendation. It is not a bad idea but I don't have many spots where lpr can be placed, and I don't want the house to look like a prison with too many cameras. The location of this ptz is the probably optimal both for general tracking and for lpr. Putting another lor...

Convince me Reolink is bad to buy

As I said, The only Reolink cameras I have are not used much for surveillance. One is an old indoor PTZ I bought, and the other is a PoE camera they sent for free and I have never turned it on until last week. But, I did see Reolink surveillance systems at Costco which made me wonder if they are...
