    US Elections (& Politics) :)

This is seriously bad. Instead of the muslims taking over, we're being sold down the river to Israel.

    Off-Road IR light bar

Was moisture intrusion the cause of your failures? I bought a few Tendelux illuminators and all had moisture intrusion after a couple of years,. My theory is that the sealing gaskets shrank. They were all repairable, only one time because I think they'll have to be destroyed to open them up...

    WTS Lightly used NVR8CH-8P-2AI NVR

It's all about supply and demand and what purchasers are willing to pay. Unfortunately, what you or I think something should be worth doesn't matter much at all. I'm sitting on a few perfectly good cameras just because it isn't worth the hassle to me to sell them for what anybody here would...

    Blue Iris OS Options

In the late 70s the company I worked for (not big blue) had two models of a chain printer, one twice as fast as the other, and costing a bit shy of twice as much. The difference was an internal jumper. To people like me who thought this to be a bit dishonest, they had a bit of a justification...

    Blue Iris OS Options

And that's the problem. People need to throw the old machines away and buy new ones. Fits right into Krugman's theory about breaking glass windows helping the economy. Helps fill up the landfills, too, as well as needing more mining and chemicals released into the atmosphere to make new chips.

Did President Trump’s Doctors Needlessly Risk His Life With Remdesivir?

    Funny / Satire

The red thread worked great for me. With the current sleeves, more often than not, I spend a half minute failing to grab the little flaps, then give up and rip the long edge off, occasionally ruining the bandaid.

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

Didn't they give Remdesivir to Trump when he was in the hospital? Another assassination attempt?

    Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I'd like to say something about that video but I can't even figure out what it is or what it's for. From my experience with grandkids, I think 5 year old girls might think it's kind of neat. Aside from that, will these get blocked from USA over the FCC non-approval?

    Funny / Satire

Maybe I can sell mine for a few hundred $ each to boeing? I've got at least 50 of them left. And I built up a pretty good stock of blank CDs and DVDs before they suddenly became obsolete. I'm a horrible pack rat, but have reformed a little. Over the last year I gave up some precious...

    Funny / Satire

I suspect that they'd have to go through some very expensive recertification process to change from the floppies, that would be a costly business decision. A lot cheaper to just keep a DOS or windows 95 system around.

    Camera to watch over garden

I finally resorted to a 7 foot high fence to keep the deer out. A few years back we had seedlings disappearing from the greenhouse. I put a temporary cam in there and fairly soon found out it was a mouse who quickly got acquainted with a mousetrap. I ran a temporary wire for this to the...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Hard to decide whether to post this here or in the jokes thread. Leading by Example, Freshman Senator Introduces Term Limits Resolution A self-contradicting proposal? 1. “Term limits must either apply to everybody, or they apply to nobody. The same rules must apply to everyone,” 2. The...

    POE Splitter Recommendation

Do any passive PSUs placing the power on the data lines (i.e. 4 wires for power and data) exist? I've assumed that all of those are 802.3xx compliant. Yet another bad assumption?

    POE Splitter Recommendation

If I'm understanding what I think you're saying, that's not correct. The camera supports both mode A and mode B POE, and I'm assuming what you're calling Passive POE is Mode B. The unit supplying the power controls what mode is used. Of course, you can't split one cable to drive 2 cameras...

Buying a used Dahua NVR - yes or no?

Having a 4ks2, I'm aware of one difference, but it's even more complicated. There's a version 1 4ks2, and a version 2 4ks2. I've got version 1, and some of the newer firmware works only on the version 2. What I don't know is if there's different firmware for the version 2 4ks2, and the 4ks2E...

How is a VPN more secure than port forwarding?

I learned this the hard way in a previous century when the backup media was the shiny brown stuff on reels. I had been blissfully backing up on tapes for at least a few months before I discovered that they were all blank, even though the software and tape deck looked and sounded like they were...

How is a VPN more secure than port forwarding?

Then it uses P2P, which is as unsafe as servers that manage the connections. I'd guess that it has more risk than the "traditional" VPN, but the risk for both has a lot of zeros to the right of the decimal point.

How is a VPN more secure than port forwarding?

All of the security decisions are based on risk vs. hassle. For myself over the years, the anti-virus software has caused a lot more hassle than any virus has caused. The one virus I know I picked up blew right through the anti-virus software, and I quit using it about 10 years ago. My...

    Money & Economics

I think you'll win that bet. I follow 6-month t-bills and they're down about a quarter point since a week ago. That's a huge movement in that short a time period. A similar move happened a couple of months ago and the yield mostly recovered fairly fast. I'm not predicting a darned thing...

    Camera Triggered by Floating Artifacts

It's the same principle that when my wife is driving she gets mostly green lights. When I drive they turn red in my face so I have to slam on the brakes. I'm convinced the cameras at the intersections have facial recognition to do this.

Dahua NVR -- where to set pre-recording seconds for IVS rule

I can't because I'm not a DMSS user. If you have the camera SD card recording only events, I remember that it will start the playback before the trigger time. I've never tried 24x7 recording on the camera to know how that works.

    Camera Triggered by Floating Artifacts

I get the spider web white dot triggers often with IVS. Even with the S3 having the human, vehicle, and animal filters on.

Dahua NVR -- where to set pre-recording seconds for IVS rule

I'm thinking we're talking past each other a bit, so saying differently what I thought I tried to say :) : First I'm talking only about IVS events, and I've set BI's record/pre-trigger-playback-time to 5 seconds. When I click the event in smartPSS, playback starts at the trigger time. When I...

Dahua NVR -- where to set pre-recording seconds for IVS rule

Too many details I can't comprehend this early in the morning! From a strictly user standpoint: With the NVR, when I click on an event, the playback starts at the event time. With BI, the playback starts a few seconds before the event time, and it sure looks like it's the mainstream being...
