    Auto Startup Question Windows 10

Ok, I resolved it. Thanks for the reply. I started from scratch and finally got it to work. My issue is just general unfamiliarity with Windows. So, for posterity a recap of what I did for auto-starting BI Tools in Windows 10 and bypassing UAC : Go to Task Scheduler. Right click on Task...

    Auto Startup Question Windows 10

I have tried that, although not the step of making a new folder within the Task Scheduler. However, I just went through and did that step by step to no avail. I have tried having the scheduled task simply run the program: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blue Iris Tools\Blue Iris Tools.exe" And I have...

    Auto Startup Question Windows 10

I've been trying to get Blue Iris Tools to auto start in Windows 10 Pro without fully disabling UAC with no luck for some time. I always get the UAC prompt. There is clearly something I am missing. I've tried: Elevated Program Shortcut without UAC Prompt - Create - Windows 7 Help Forums I've...

Yes, I received an email from Monoprice today.

    Monoprice cable recall

Yes, I checked it and this is indeed the cable I ran. Fair enough that other suppliers may have the same cable, but this speaks incredibly poorly on Monorpice IMO. I can't even fathom the amount of work it will be to replace the runs I did.

    Monoprice cable recall

I ran a couple hundred feet of this cable in March, it was an incredible amount of work. I am done with Monoprice.

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

Great, thanks for the tips, I will try all those things. I am pretty sure the cables didn't get nicked or bent, although they were always conspiring to do so!

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

I ended up setting up big zip-tie loops throughout the long run from the basement to the garage. Then I ran a pull string with distance markers (USA Made 1250 Lb 1/2" Pull Tape/Mule Webbing - 500 FT (Many Strengths and Lengths Available) - - Amazon.com) through the loops, using the old, existing...

Best Ubiquity switch for my setup?

Well, I could always keep it outside the rack, just mount it vertically onto the plywood on the wall. Then see how the temperature fares. I would prefer to have everything in the rack for aesthetic purposes though. I decided to build a separate bench to house the computer and UPS though, so...

Best Ubiquity switch for my setup?

I'm planning on mounting mine in a network rack, underneath a couple of 24-port patch panels and above a Zyxel switch. I will have to check the temperature and see how hot it gets. I have some extra room in the rack though, I could give it more space if needed.

Best Ubiquity switch for my setup?

Wow, good to know. Are those a Ubiquity part specifically for that purpose, or something else?

Best Ubiquity switch for my setup?

Interesting, haven't seen this before. The comments on that seem to indicate it doesn't support multiple VLANs via WiFi, which is one thing I like about the AC AP Pro. I want to have a separate WiFi VLAN for the IoT devices in the house.

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

I decided to go with 2 1000' boxes of CAT6 23AWG. One reason was Monoprice didn't have any 250' boxes in white, and I want the lines to match the color of the garage walls (white). So for the long run (150') from the garage to the basement/NVR room, I will plan on running 2 lines at a time...

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

Yes, this is a good point. I will be running other cameras after the garage, so I will need more cable. I figure every run I do in the house will be pulling at least 2 lines at a time, so I will want at least 2 boxes for efficiency. I'd love to run 4 lines in a single go from the garage since it...

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

Interesting. I suppose I could get this and run it first while replacing the coaxial runs. Then I could use it as a pull line, and would know the exact length of the run before buying cable. Thanks for the suggestion.

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

I suppose I could look into renting a TDR, if that were possible. I will probably just use a laser and measure as best I can. The 1000 ft rolls of Monoprice CAT6 23AWG seem to have distance marks on the jacket, according to the Q+A: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8103 I would probably...

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

I may pick up a laser measurement tool so I can get in the correct ballpark. There are a lot of awkward spots where measuring wouldn't be easy. I also have a wire pulling tool with rollers that I will likely mount somewhere in order to feed the cables better...

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

Yes, I totally agree. I keep muttering to myself, "have some self respect" when looking at the coaxial install job. It was done with the absolute minimal effort.

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

Ah, fantastic - thank you. I am planning on using riser rated, since it will go between floors. The basement is a graveyard of old/defunct cable runs going back decades. Whoever my uncle hired to run the old coaxial lines seems to have done a really lazy job of it. This is how they ran them...

Running multiple CAT6 cables - many spools at once? How to manage spool lengths efficiently

So I want to run 4 CAT6 cables from the basement of my uncle's large old house to his garage on the first (upper) floor for 3 camera installs there. This is a meandering run through multiple basement rooms, running alongside pipes, and through some cramped crawlspaces at times. Currently there...

Best Ubiquity switch for my setup?

I am planning on the following setup for my Blue Iris/Home LAN camera system, but am not sure which LAN switch to get: Router: pfsense SG-1100 LAN switch: Ubiquity 8 port switch (2) UniFi AC AP Pro for LAN WiFi Blue Iris with 2 NICs Zyxel GS1008HP 8 port POE+ (for the camera network, currently...

Run several CAT6 cables to remote location, or one CAT6 connecting to a POE hub?

This is a question I would love an answer to as well. I would imagine you would run into bandwidth problems if you had tons of cameras running off a remote switch. But if the uplink cable was CAT6 (properly run) and the uplink connection on both sides was 10Mbps, I would think that would be...

Run several CAT6 cables to remote location, or one CAT6 connecting to a POE hub?

I had never considered this and didn't realize it was an option, thanks. Found this thread about doing it: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/how-to-replace-analog-system-into-ip-system-easily.39165/ It does seem like a bit of added complexity, although it would mean I wouldn't have to run 150'+...

Run several CAT6 cables to remote location, or one CAT6 connecting to a POE hub?

Yes, I did something similar at my house. I ran two lines through an insulated wall and ceiling to the upstairs bedroom. It wasn't an easy thing to do because of the insulation. Upstairs I put a small POE switch which powers 3 cameras. I use a single CAT5e cable to connect the...

Run several CAT6 cables to remote location, or one CAT6 connecting to a POE hub?

I am looking to replace an old camera system for my uncle. Currently there is a run of 3 coaxial cables that run from his basement DVR to his garage. This is a run of a good 150 feet, snaking underneath his house and basement area, up into his garage on the second floor (the house is on a hill)...
