New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I spent a bit of time looking at XML/Soap messages 'onvif_zeep' exchanges with the camera. You can work around the broken event example, but you get another problem: the 'zeep' XML module cannot fully parse an XML alarm message and leaves out important fields (you can compare 'm' to 'm1' to see...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

I believe that the app relies on Hik ISAPI which is not implemented on the hikvision doorbell. If you install ONVIF capable firmware, you can receive ONVIF events as can be easily verified with the ONVIF Device Manager application. However, for those wishing to use the doorbell camera in HA...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Thanks, I saw the mount, but it looks a bit fragile with wires exposed, so I decided to make a wedge from a pice of wood because the supplied wedge angle (about 20 degrees or so) is not quite sufficient. I need about 45. Oh, there is a rubber nipple that can sort of protect wires, right ? I did...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Re. temp. When I measured the temperature in the upper left corner (the hottest place for my camera as well), I had the cover on. With a 24V(really 28V) transformer, it was 122-124F with a 88F ambient. With a 16V(really 19V) transformer, it went down to 108-100F with about the same ambient...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Some questions: 1. Is there a digital/electronic chime compatibility list similar to Ring's ? 2. What's the "best" current firmware supporting ONVIF ? Nelly's ? LaView's ? Or there's not much difference between those two ? 3. The RCA app can de-fisheye the image. My understanding is that if...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

According to my measurements, the doorbell consumes about 200mA at 19V when fed with a 10/16. It consumes about 125mA at 28V when fed with a 24/40 transformer , about the same 3.8VA. However, the camera is about 10F hotter when fed with 28V as opposed to 19V which is probably caused by the...

New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Just bought an RCA HB2. Also have the heat issue: the upper part seems quite hot. So, both Nelly and RCA behave similarly. Pete_c, what firmware do you have in your Nelly ? I wonder because you do not heat issues and Ed_ does.

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

Yes, presumably the patent expired at the end of the last year, but I've not seen any new switches that would implement it yet. I disagree on the feature usefulness: there might be a bunch of automation rules that one would want to trigger based on the dimmer level/switch status, especially...

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

I am not talking about lights turning instantly but rather about the switch sending its status back to the controller without needing to poll it. Very few switches on the market can do that. Leviton Vizia RF+ and Cooper can, but they are ancient, at least 5 year old and pretty expensive in...

    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

I use a small zwave network mainly for locks and thermos. I have two Yale locks which, while expensive, have been completely reliable. Likewise, RCSTZ45 thermostats. Initially, I used zwave for lighting as well (started about 5 years ago) but not now. My main issue with zwave based lighting is...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Thanks. I need to cover 180 deg: the feeder, the countertop (already 90 deg) and the stairs another 90 deg.

    best smart thermostat ?

I am pretty sure (read somewhere) that RCS is an OEM for some Tranes. I used to have a Trane that had issues with providing instant status (temp changes) which I wanted to monitor. The RCS TZ45 replacement has been flawless in this respect. Maybe it's just my bad/good luck with those two...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Right, that's what I already have outdoors. I thought there might be something smaller for indoors of comparable quality. When I suggested getting the same for indoors, the wife commented that it would look like a CVS camera (with a wall bracket). But, if that's the best PTZ below $200, it's...

    best smart thermostat ?

I use this one(z-wave): RCS Z-Wave Communicating Thermostat (001-01773) - Programmable Household Thermostats - Amazon.com that I got at about half price. It's been pretty reliable when used from Elk M1. It is not, however, a smart thermo in the sense that it does not have any built in...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

No, that's for indoors. The wife adopted a cat from a shelter she's worried about (baby-cam -> cat-cam). So, I do need an indoor PTZ to see what it's up to when we are away for a day or so.

Ah, I see. Apologies for the silly question. I do need a PTZ for the cat-cam :)

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Thanks again, So, it seems like IPC-HDW5231R-Z is the best below $200 PTZ, at least better in all respects including dimensions than SD29204T-GN ? Just wanted to make sure before I order.

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Thanks, I think it is pretty well protected (the SD29204T-GN) against elements currently. What I am curious about is whether it's any better wrt image. Counter-intuitively, it seems that IPC-HDW5231R-Z would look better indoors despite being designed for outdoors because it's smaller, no ?

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Hi, I am wondering how IPC-HDW5231R-Z compares to SD29204T-GN for outdoor use ? I currently use a SD29204T-GN mounted under a wide eve without any problems. If SD29204T-GN is "better" for outdoors, I can relocate the SD29204T-GN indoor and use it as a "cat" cam. Thanks.
