DAHUA PoE camera does not power with Poe switch but powers with 12v adapter

There are 3 common ways for PoE to power a device, Mode A (power on pins 1, 2, 3 & 6), Mode B (power over pins 4, 5, 7 & 8) and 8 wire (all 8 pins get used, this is for PoE++ 802.3bt). If it works over PoE++, then you just need to determine which mode has failed and find a PoE injector that...

DAHUA PoE camera does not power with Poe switch but powers with 12v adapter

https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/2881 According to the link above, you need 24VDC, not 24VAC. FInd any PoE splitter, 23W minimum, lots of them on Amazon, of various quality and reliability. If ethernet data is working, it is passing thru the T1transformer, not likely...

Opps - I bought the wrong Dahua camera - lens swap?

Yes, M12 is AKA S-Mount, basically M12 x .5mm thread pitch. Basically 39.3 threads per inch, needs to be fine so you can adjust focus. 16mm lens mount huh? It makes sense, starlight lenses need to have bigger optics to capture more light and get a F1.0 rating. Best I can find is a 8mm focal...

Thanks. Not feeling too bright today, spent an hour trying to find the zoom control on the fixed 3.6mm camera. Ugh.

Opps - I bought the wrong Dahua camera - lens swap?

IPC-HFW5442T-ASE-NI-3.6mm It's replacing an old Hik 2332 that I had installed a 25mm lens (back in '14), probably a 1/3" lens. I got it last year, just got around to putting it in. I thought I was getting a varifocal. But it's fixed at 3.6mm. DOH! Any known gotchas on lens swaps these...

    Total noob Home Assistant question

I did that for a while on 8th gen I7 mini pc, it should work. I fired up a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB eventually to move it over as I was sick of dealing with the Docker challenges. It started spitting out some compatibility warnings. If you are comfortable with docker, then you should be fine. I went...

DAHUA PoE camera does not power with Poe switch but powers with 12v adapter

So the cameras survived? The cool thing about ethernet is it's all balanced cabling with isolation transformers on each end. But parts are typically rated to 2kv isolation. Lightning will exceed that easily. Good idea to isolate the cameras from grounding the strike, let it find another path.

DAHUA PoE camera does not power with Poe switch but powers with 12v adapter

If you are looking to repair it, here is what the power circuit might look like. Simplified, there will be more devices hanging off it for circuit protection, but shows the basic flow. Finding replacement chips might be tough. Your best hope is finding a bad solder joint along the circuit...

    BI + Home Assistant

For Option 1 - using Blue Iris to do notifications - no joy. Recall, I have a wimpy PC and don't want to do any image processing, AI or or in-camera. I just want my old-school alarm sensors triggering Blue Iris. I used to do this with Milestone (using Barionet), but that software is so bloated...

    BI + Home Assistant

Thank you @Vettester & @actran! This is all very useful. I was able to get the HIKs added to HA as generic cameras for still images. (firewall issue, I had the HIKs locked down tight). I'll work on the blueprint now. I'll also be sure to try out Blue Iris MQTT, I was able to test my server...

    Hikvision POE powered cameras

Haaad, I have seen the IEEE802 spec. Min power draw by any PD is 10mA. At 37V at PD, that is .37W. So, you missed that key datapoint. Let's assume it is built to be fully 802.3af compliant. Then the 2CD2185FWD PoE circuit must draw a minimum of .37W and cannot draw any more than 12.95W to be...

    BI + Home Assistant

    BI + Home Assistant

I want to use Home Assistant for notifications with still images from camera. I'm struggling to figure out the best way to setup Home Assistant. I tried individual cameras, but I think I need to have Home assistant feed from Blue Iris. Not sure. Any tips?

    Blue Iris and I/O

The Sealevel devices on Ethernet communicate via TCP MODBUS. I have a Barix Barionet100 (running custom logic script to handle ANALOG inputs and converting to binary ON/OFF) that I use with Milestone. I The Barionet also uses MODBUS, but get an SM_GetDeviceConfig failed (-10) error when trying...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

Singlemode is considered to be more expensive, smaller diameter and more fragile, but lets you go lots of kilometers. Multimode should be fine for your run. Pull 2 strands if you can, but if you can only go with a single fiber, you can use SFPs with bidirectional wavelengths. Using BiDi, you...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

Excellent point TonyR. I haven't seen any flooded burial cable, just direct burial. I've pulled fiber patch cord thru underground conduit years ago, but we don't get any winter freezing here. My idea of a 100ft $14 patch cord pull should really be a $292 direct burial cable. And the fiber...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

Hardly anything is ever zero-maintenance and lifetime trouble free, but should work, until it doesn't. At which point, you promptly fix it. Hopefully it doesn't fail in the middle on an incident. Chances are, it won't. Unfortunately, criminals are using RF jammers: Burglars suspected of using...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

Wireless is fine if you want to watch your dog running around the yard. WIFI is insecure and vulnerable, and not recommended for security use. If you must use WIFI, use WPA3, though the signal can still be jammed. Bury the link underground and secure your shed as if it were another room...

CAT6A Shielded (FTP) Running Along 120VAC for 75'

Check your local code for running these in same conduit. If allowed, you would need CAT with the right voltage rating. They make 600V rated CAT6, see Belden 7953A Multi-Conductor - Category 6 DataTuff, and others make it also. I'd recommend pulling a duplex fiber and using some cheap media...

    DIY PoE injector - ?12v/24v/48v

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet#Pinouts You can feed your DC + and - per this diagram, DC on the spares. Voltage, 48V max, shouldn't hurt to try it at 12 or 24. For short runs, you can just feed it down 2 wires (12V on blue, 0V on brown). Use both colors in the pair for long...

Xprotect Smart Client takes too long to load.

When I started off on Essential @ $39/camera back in 2015. But Essential got upgraded to Express, which costs more, now express is replaced by express+, which is $75/camera. They keep dropping the lowest cost versions, which is upping the price to get beyond the free 8 camera system. Now to do 9...

    Custom Stealth Camera Installation

This is an design/build/install I completed back in early 2017, been working flawlessly since. It's a driveway camera install, inside a brick-mailbox, looking back along a driveway. The requirement was to be stealth. Main concern that a low camera would be vulnerable to being blocked or...

    Non-permanent security/alarm system

Another option is to use cameras with alarm inputs, then wire the PIR sensor to the camera's alarm input. Eliminates the need for the Barionet. I'll start on a write up soon.

    Non-permanent security/alarm system

I could do a write-up on the configuration. For a basic start, you need Milestone Server running Express. It might work with Essential, but you can only use 7 of the 8 cameras, as the Barionet takes the spot of a camera.

    Non-permanent security/alarm system

I have Xprotect Express, it supports the Barix as a device, it needs to be licensed like a camera. It connects via ethernet to the Milestone Server/PC . You can hardwire your sensors to the Barionet 100 and just have ethernet from all cameras and Barionet 100 to your Milestone. You can expand...
