You should never mess with a structural piece of steel - especially the underside since that's where the tensile stress is focused. Welding's as bad as drilling since heat changes the temper, creating origin points for cracks. I'm with the clamp-camp! Now with concrete, well, let me tell you... ;)

Is anyone using this outdoors where snow, ice and wind is an issue? I'm curious if there's any risk of the dome(s) frosting up if temperatures get below zero or accumulate condensation in rapidly changing temperatures? (I'm thinking mountain cabin)
