Can't confirm on weather, as I live in California, but i have seen some good reports from colder climates. Yes the cams can be mounted vertically. You can also change the orientation of the picture on Blue Iris. I think the 5231's are still the best for the money. The ultra starlight's however...

So, OP, you used the mini wedge for this correct? How is it mounted, and how well has it held up to the weather? Also interested in what you used to do the time lapse. Is there a utility in Blue Iris?

Thank you! Just picked one up to use outside my house in a nema enclosure. I have been researching the best way to do this. Since I only wired up a limited amount of cable runs, this will help me add coverage in a couple spots.

Welcome to the forum! And yes the Dahua Starlights are pretty amazing. You could always add a "Daytime" 4k camera for added resolution.

I haven't tried on my blue iris rig, but would assume you would need upgraded graphics for 4k. I think you could get away with a gtx 1050 and still not pay too much to run the bigger cards. I am interested in your question, because if I upgrade to any 4k cameras, I might run into a similar...

Baubas, I got my system from Dell as a scratch and dent at the outlet. It had the boot disk on the motherboard. You could buy a WD purple drive and hook up the two wires and you are in business. out the door was in the 600 range, but I got the i7 7700k.

Thanks for the tip, I tried to go headless, but it was just too much work(right now have an old tv barely good enough to view the feed). I know it should be easy, but there always seems to be something to keep me from connecting remotely. This may be the key.

I just bought a Dell 7050 Small form factor with an m.2 os boot drive, 17 7700K 8gb ram, got this at the dell outlet under scratch and dent and the thing was brand new. Doing this enabled me to drop in a WD purple 4tb and the overall cost was 800 ish but it runs my 6 cameras at 15% load on 25...

I do not have the Hikvision, but I would find it pretty challenging to be better than the Dahua starlight turrets from Andy. Unless you have a huge space to cover with the cameras, the ir should cover most everything. Caught a kitten in my garden at 3am this morning.
