Here are the issues with comcast and another modem. Comcasts modem does not really allow port forwarding. However if you put it in bridge mode then your router can do port forwading. But then if your modem is in bridge mode the 4K boxes will not work becuase comcast makes them so they only work...

Yes I put my former modem in bridge mode to do that. I can not be sure that what I am saying is totally correct because getting to talk to anyone at comcast who knows anything technical is really difficult and frustrating . I spent a lot of time with them .

I mean you have to have the system directly connected to the modem to do port forwarding for that system.

The latests The latest router requires that the system be connected directly to the modem. Only one sytem can be connected to the mmodem so you can not have a router and a PC connected directly. So if I want only one PC in my house it may work...hmmm

Comcast no longer allows me to do port forwarding. I am looking at NGROK but have not yet determined if it can meet all my needs. (It always changes the WAN address on startup unless you pay them not to). Anyone make any recomendations as to what else I might use?

Well I looked into hotmail and I am not sure that this will work. It seems that outlook owns hotmail and probably wont allow unsecure apps. Ah yes good info. I used to use comcast and it stopped working. I did not know BI had that as I am probably out of time to get updates. I will try hotmail. I am not blocking email but I think gmail is bocking me. Thanks for the suggestions.

BY the way I forgot to mention that gmail does not allow unsecured apps to send to them anymore. At least as far as I can tell.

For right now I would like to avoid using pushover if I can use emails. I did as you suggested and cofigured my email server using BI. See below. But I still get "Connect failed". I am beginning to thing that BI does not work with some of the email servers. Have you gotten it to work with gmail?

I have an email acount with Yahoo, Gmail, and now pushover. BI can not seem to send these alerts directly to yahoo or other. Hence I am using pushover and my new email address in pushover. I need to configure the email server as part of that I beleive. BI asks for the server when confguring...
