IP Cam <-> Web server direct connection and integration

WRT #4, instead of a "push" from the camera to the web server/cloud, you might consider a "pull"- ffmpeg is your Swiss Army knife here. It sounds like you are well aware of security issues ... so yea, make sure you have 'em locked down well. BTW, I have a some IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3's running version...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

LOL on dude wearing full Camo-Gear plus Camo-Hat ... is he hoping that will help him blend in with the surroundings so the Owl isn't "spooked" by him ... versus the dozens of other people milling around! ;-) P.S. More Canon cameras? "Big Whites" are probably 70-200, 100-400, and guessing...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Once again, great info @steve1225 - I appreciate that you even mentioned that the image ratio needs to be the same. From my experience (reviews and hands-on) camera lens focal lengths aren't always quite what they claim to be ... but they are usually pretty close. So I appreciate the education...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Thanks a bunch @steve1225 for the great info! Got it that Z4E was fixed aperture through the entire zoom range - sorry I didn't fully realize that. Yes, wide-mildtele is more difficult lens design than mildtele-strongtele. Thanks for the FOV data ... and yes, I should have looked this up. So...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Yes ... i.e. for the same field-of-view, when the Z4E wide open (8mm), what is the "zoom level" on the Z4 which goes from 2.7-12mm. And the REAL question I'm trying to answer is what is the difference in aperture at those settings - i.e. how much does the ZE close-down? Since for the same...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Ooops ... 16->32mm typo fixed in post above - thanks. Good into @wittaj - you would certainly have an excellent "feel" for the difference. To be clear, those are both S3's - right? And when the Z4E is wide-open, what "zoom level" does that correspond to with the Z4? Here's an example of a...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Circling back on the "how does the aperture vary with zoom" question ... and thanks @steve1225 for your info. I'm debating replacing a ZE (2.7-12mm) with a Z4E (8-32mm). The "Zoom Level" on the Z4's go from 0-2275 (wide-tele)... and one of mine is at 400 ... which I suspect is wayyyy wider than...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

Great info - is the aperture variation with zoom setting documented anywhere?

Three Year Old Dahua Acting Up

Ditto what @joqhith (and @wittaj) said about "cable termination/corrosion issue" ... especially if you don't have the connections WELL protected from the elements. I'm guessing you have a female-female connection that joins the Ethernet cables somewhere up there (totally "get it" that it might...

    Mini-Review - 5442-Z4E-S3 AKA B54IR-Z4E S3 - Replacement to the 5442-Z4E

What I found most impressive how well it did with license plates that are lighted ... AND those that are not. And this is visible light - i.e. not dialing in an IR light for an IR Camera. Well done @Parley!!!

    Mini-Review - 5442-ZE-S3 AKA T54IR-ZE-S3 - Replacement to 5442-ZE

Boy ... that sounds strange ... sorry I don't have anything to add beyond what I wrote in post #65 - was uneventful for both of my IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3's. Hopefully it will "take" this time and you'll end up with the same versions that I noted. BTW, I say "cancel" when asked to open...

    IP Camera Recommendation

To be clear, shoot at EXACT same settings ... so we can see the difference between sensor, lens, and image processing. Sure, gain (and noise reduction) might be different between the two camera's, but exposure is exposure. Thanks in advance! P.S. You probably want to snarf PNG's from the web...

    IP Camera Recommendation

That's pretty impressive by the 4K-X at 1/120s exposure and only 35% gain ... I'm looking at the dark areas across the street. If easy for 'ya to do, be interesting to see a comparison shot (at night) with the 5442's in color with similar settings.

    IP Camera Recommendation

If you only have a single run and want to run multiple camera's, you might consider a PoE extender switch. I got this one a few weeks ago and it's been running with no problem in production - it ran three camera's with no problem - just make sure you size the upstream PoE injector appropriately...

    IP Camera Recommendation

Great advice from various people (LOL @samplenhold on your test rig!) about getting a varifocal to scope things out - they are only $200 on Amazon (and my delivery in Colorado was next day), so yea, that seems like a logical first step. @Ri22o - impressive low-light performance from your...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

So as demonstrated above in the histograms, the JPEG generated from the API has a compressed dynamic range by boosting the shadows and knocking down the highlights. I also pointed out earlier that Hikvision has a Grey Scale option (Image->Image Enhancement) where you can choose the grey scale...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

I agree the color balance is bad in the "house" pictures. What I'm highlighting is the difference between the PNG from the web interface and the JPEG from the API. Here's the histograms of those two pictures from Photoshop - note the compression of the dynamic range by boosting the shadows and...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

I setup my 2nd camera on a scene that has a wider dynamic range with varying colors with more controlled light ... and yea, for this scene, I can see more of a difference in quality between VBR and CBR ... albeit I "pay" for it with a much larger file size. Better yet, it provides a good...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

I did some testing ... and while the change from VBR to CBR (and bumping the Bit Rate) resulted in a MUCH bigger JPEG, the overall quality wasn't that much better. However, GREAT NEWS is that changing Encode[0].SnapFormat[0].Video.Quality=6 (from the default of 5) got rid of most of the blocky...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

I would LOVE to get a copy of the API doc (my DM's are open!) ... in fact, I asked about it two weeks ago here! ;-) Thanks a bunch @duplo for the tips - I'll try this later tonight.

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

Wellll ... the workaround of using ffmpeg will require a bit of coding to setup versus simply retrieving the latest image. Plus there's a difference between running a test on the command line versus something in production 7x24x365 that deals with the occasional camera/network oddities. Note...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

    Good idea @Webfont - here's the command line I ended up doing to generate 10 images: ffmpeg -y -rtsp_transport tcp -i 'rtsp:/USERNAMEcolonPASSWORD@IP/' -qscale:v 1 -r 1 -frames:v 10 -s 1920x1080 image-%03d.jpg The JPEG's coming from that are what I would expect (even if I relax qscale) and...

    I like this PTZ.. HikVision - DS-2DF8C260I5XG-ELW 1/1.2" progressive scan CMOS @ 2mp.

The "easy" way is ask what the pixel size is ... since for the same SIZE sensor, the pixel size will decrease as the megapixels go up. Bottom line is you want the entire 1/1.2" working for 'ya. You mentioned earlier that "2mp 6.0 to 360 mm V/S 4mp 6.0 to 288 mm" ... which makes me wonder ...

    I like this PTZ.. HikVision - DS-2DF8C260I5XG-ELW 1/1.2" progressive scan CMOS @ 2mp.

Ditto what these guys said! @bigredfish - "It should be a light sucking MONSTER!" @wittaj - "Go with the 2MP and the larger focal length - winner every time" I presume that 2MP uses up the entire1/1.2" sensor (not a sub-section!) that has the latest technology combined with "Max Aperture of...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

I appreciate the brainstorming @d5775927 ... but I already tried the same looking tab ... except instead of being under Video (or Encode), it's under Picture->Snapshot. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to make any difference when you are doing an external "pull" via the API. Per the Web5.0...

API Snapshot quality is MUCH worse than Web Snapshots - blocky artifacts in shadows plus overall lightening

Good idea @wittaj , but I should have been more clear above that I have looked at this a LOT ;-) The camera is running at 6FPS and I've trying varying the Compression, Encoding Strategy, CBR/VBR, etc. It's super simple to grab a PNG from the web interface ... and then I just compare to the same...

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year!

Welcome back @EMPIRETECANDY - LOL was that fireworks video taken with one of your camera's?!? ;-) Since you said you are "going back to work", can I "ping" 'ya with some software bugs that I think should be easy to fix? They are repeatable on both of my T54IR-ZE-S3's ... and I suspect exist...
