    Alerts JPG Creation?

Maybe I am not doing it right, but when using the Android app I get an image with the alert if I have the jpg snapshot on. Otherwise, I get the alert, but have to go to the camera and then click on the clips, then the most recent clip. With it on, I can just touch the alert card and it goes...

Ok I'm investing my time in this Blue Iris, can google ruin it?

If it is anything like Nest, there will be pretty much zero control over how it operates. And don't get me started on "the cloud". I pay SugarSync $90/year for 250 GB. (Haven't shopped this for a while, so this may not be a great deal anymore.). It would take me less than a minute to set...

How to set up folder to point to Dropbox?

I know this is a bit of a necro...but SugarSync works better for this kind of thing as it allows arbitrary folder pairing. So instead of moving BI to the cloud folder, you make the BI folder a cloud folder. You have to be more responsible and watch your usage level, but with great...

    DFW Noob

Well, sort of noob. Used to be the general manager of a large home automation company. One of our products was surveillance systems, including integration with Crestron, etc. But I was the bossman, not a tech, and it was in the analog era. I am spellbound by the capability that a $50-$100...

Random cameras freezing, but BI does not detect lost signal

I'm getting some odd stuff, too. I'm on 4.0.9.3. Sometimes when I get a trigger, no video is recorded. There is a snapshot in the console that shows the first frame of what would have been the video, but there is no actual video file stored. I'm guessing that the event is stored in the db...

    Always on windows device

Yeah, you're right. It's more like $20 a month. Went a little fast there. I guess whether that matters much is a family finances type of thing. The 200W estimate I used is way off, though, intentionally over the top conservative. Laptops don't use anywhere near their power supplies rating...

    Detecting Motion

Why not just use masking over the street and a hotspot over the driveway walk area? I have a rose bush in full view about 10 feet from my camera...I just mask it out and have never had a motion event from it. Wait...just re-read...looks like you want it to pick up street activity. Have you...

    Always on windows device

Conservative rule of thumb for power is $0.11 per W per month constantly on (that's for 15 cents per kWh). Here in TX we are well below that. It will take you a decades to pay off even a cheap PC--you only save the differential. (730 hrs per month =365*24/12; $0.15 per kWh * 730 h = $109.5...
