    I never said impossible.

    Smart receptacles

That does bring up another thought though. Those receptacles with built in USB are obviously in the same box, combininghigh and low voltage. But maybe they're ok cuz the low voltage is directly powered off the High voltage. Not separately powered.

    Smart receptacles

Oh duh IP Switch, seems so obvious after one finds it. Apparently from the reviews it can be set to ping a site if no reply it can power cycle. That could be useful for keeping remote equipment online.

    Smart receptacles

Nope not powerline. Regular smart plugs like this that plug in and give remote control. Except have an rj45 as an option to connect. https://www.amazon.com/TanTan-Assistant-Required-Anywhere-Upgraded/dp/B071LLWLLP/ref=sr_1_3?s=lamps-light&ie=UTF8&qid=1546722382&sr=1-3&keywords=smart+plug But I...

    Smart receptacles

That's kinda the conclusion I've come to but thought I would see if anyone knew of any. Guess I'll have to resort to adding a router with a separate ssid to connect smart plugs to. But yes that is essentially what's needed. Probably to industrially priced for my current need

    Smart receptacles

A smart receptacle that can connect to LAN by rj45 instead of wifi.

    Smart receptacles

Are there any RJ45 smart receptacles available? Everything I've seen so far is always wifi

    buying an IP camera

A while back I bought a Tmobile AC1900 branded router did some research and uploaded an original Asus AC68u firmware which turns it back into a regular Asus router not the limited Tmobile. It has dual WAN with USB ability and failover to secondary in either order. So any phone or mobile hotspot...

items to buy along with cameras

Sure if money is no object. My answer would be a brand new spec doesn't have a large need yet in most cases. Products requiring it will take a while, brands and product availability will take a while before general market. Just like the others did. As time goes on it will provide more equipment...

Gotcha...but other's needs/wants will vary. I have 2 and know 2 others considering them also.

network gurus need help on picking out firewall/router

That's pretty much what I said. We agree it appears you're just trying to argue. But maybe I'm percieviving it wrong. POE+ will allow an easy upgrade to the larger PTZ and it doesn't cost that much more. Which is the same principle that you seem to preach. A little bit extra to get more.

items to buy along with cameras

I hear you...I should have used different adjectives and said something like some of the larger fancier PTZ spec POE+. I could have worded it different. Are you implying you haven't used any POE+ spec'd cams or that you have run them all fine on the af switches?

network gurus need help on picking out firewall/router

Oops ya got me yep clueless, awwe shucks couldn't get nuttin past you guys. Fair enough I used an overly broad adjective should have said many or some instead of most. Yes I'm human too. In the grand scheme...POE+ switch opens more doors to upgrades and is a good choice if someone is trying to...

    Camera mounted in owl box

Oh apparently you haven't talked to some of the people I have. Like seeing deer in a field and asking oh are they out this time of year, or does it work if the batteries are dead. I could go on

    Camera mounted in owl box

Yep pretty much just simpler wording in case it went over anybody's head.

ISO outdoor security cam w/continuous record to mem card (no wires or wifi)

Sure a couple deep cycle batteries, a charge controller with load output control, about 300w + of solar panel, a couple Ubiquiti Nanostations and obviously the IP camera. The controller will control the output to your cam and Nanostations. So they shut off if voltage runs too low. So as long as...

    High Stress Security Cam Job

I recently read there were 2000+ cameras on a campus...I don't think real time monitoring is even reasonable. Technology has to take over at that point, auto tracking motion etc. Realistically go back and review after something happens

    Camera mounted in owl box

Could also try Ubiquiti wifi and just a regular power cable...if the Toughcable doesn't work out. They're equipment is excellent

Replacing/upgrading BNC cameras on Ganz DR4N

I would tend to agree, newer hardware devices will frequently not be compatible with older controlling hardware. Especially when computerized equipment is involved. Newer generations of technology just doesn't like working correctly with other generations. Even when it says backwards compatible...

network gurus need help on picking out firewall/router

Aha... he's one of those guys eh? Well for the record...he disagreed with me :) And he asked a question to which I answered. That's dictionary definition of conversation not arguing. But apparently we're not allowed to speak freely here...so users can have multiple answers and decide for themselves.

network gurus need help on picking out firewall/router

Ease of use, out of the box compatibility, small compact low power consumption box, a company standing behind the product, no part searching or assembling etc. Sometimes time is worth more than the cost.

items to buy along with cameras

It's not incorrect then, by your own statement. If buying a switch it makes sense to buy the latest standard if reasonable. Set yourself up for your next upgrade since virtually everyone of us starts cheap and small then keep upgrading. As well as having a higher overall power capability running...

items to buy along with cameras

Many of the newer cams are using more power. I would suggest the next POE standard of PoE+ or 802.3at. 30w per port.

network gurus need help on picking out firewall/router

I just found/watched info on the Netgate routers and running PfSense on there. They're an extremely powerful router running one of the best opensource router software available. But the hardware is a little pricey.
