    Ghosting..Dahua 5231R-ZE

This seems to be a sensitive subject. I wasn't trying to step on any toes. I wasn't saying that setting iframe interval to fps+1 would fix OP's issue. I was saying it should be nearly as effective in the case where motion triggered recording required a keyframe, since it would create a new...

    Ghosting..Dahua 5231R-ZE

I was speaking generally from a video encoding/decoding standpoint in response to the question of why Dahua would default and recommend 2x framerate when it seems to be widely considered suboptimal around here, but I still have some thoughts around this and BI... If there's an issue specific to...

    "Smart Codec" Yes or No?

No problem. Maybe similar testing has already been done. I'm not claiming to be doing anything revolutionary, I just figured I'd do a quick test for myself since I didn't see any conclusive info/testing on this stuff.

    "Smart Codec" Yes or No?

I just did a test with some fast motion in front of one of my 5231 cams (all with VBR Best, bitrate maxed out, and 15fps): 1. Smart Codec Off, IFrame 15 (1 keyframe every second) 2. Smart Codec Off, IFrame 150 (1 keyframe every 10 seconds) 3. Smart Codec On I walked along the same path at the...

Need experts! Dahua Camera + OpenVPN = 30kbps max?

Are you using UDP or TCP for your VPN? Are you using 128-bit or 256-bit encryption? Are you using compression?

    "Smart Codec" Yes or No?

In my limited testing, Smart Codec uses WAY less data with little to no loss in quality in low-motion scenes. When there is no motion, the bitrate goes down to the double-digits. This is the expected behavior, so in that sense, it at least looks like a very effective implementation. What I...

    Ghosting..Dahua 5231R-ZE

There is not actually any meaningful relationship between iframe interval and framerate that makes matching (or using a multiple) inherently better than an odd value. Assuming a framerate of, say, 15fps, using iframe interval of 16 should work just as well as 15, there would just be an iframe...

Dahua DVR/Cams - Night time motion detection and bugs!

Auxiliary IR illumination not only solved my bug issues, but drastically improved the image compared to the internal IR, which suffered from a lot of bad reflection glow off of my soffits/trim.

Hoping for help cleaning up compression issue

Yes, I'm recording continuously. No, I'm not getting a big pulse in the image on each keyframe, at least not any more noticeably than with shorter intervals.

Hoping for help cleaning up compression issue

^ Sorry, as you can see, I'm new here. I'm not saying it's superior, it can't be, I just consider it a better bitrate value for me :) But I have limited enough storage space that there's a real benefit in increasing it. I also like the benefit when streaming over cellular.

Hoping for help cleaning up compression issue

After experimenting with different encoding settings I've settled on: H.265 VBR 15fps Best Quality 3328Kbps (max bitrate) I Interval of 150 Setting I Interval that high drops the actual used bitrate down a ton since it's not wasting data with unnecessary I-frames. Even on Best quality actual...
