    Upgrade Dahua Cameras.

Remove the current camera and junction box. Get a "L" shaped schedule 40 connector to go into the hole where the junction box was. Schedule 40 conduit... one end connecting to the L connector down to where you would like the camera. Mount the junction box back.... conduit going into the...

Does camera video metadata work across equipment brands?

Specialty metadata would not carry over as it is proprietary for the manufacturers ecosystem. So Dahua metadata would not be understood by Hikvision NVR. Now there are some 3rd party VMS that would have special profiles for specific brands. There is a chance that this would somewhat provide a...

    Best replacement DVR for Dahua

Alibi as far as I know is no longer selling rebranded Hikvision. They are all rebranded Uniview now.

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

Looks like I jinxed myself saying this the other day. Yesterday it showed my network was down but all the AP's and NAS were still running. Went to check my server room and the cloudkey was showing the "fallback IP address". Unplugging the network cable from the cloudkey did trigger a reaction...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

I haven't tried out the G2 yet but when it comes to standalone NVR from Hikvision, Dahua and Luminys, when the detection is done by the NVR itself then you will start noticing slowdowns when switching menus and loading video streams. I imagine it would be the same for the G2. Trying to have...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

Yeah.... for 2K it is for resolutions up to "1440". I have a couple that were "1520" and it classified it as 4K so I had to log into the camera and lower the resolution. Then remove the camera from Protect and re-adopt it.

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

It does seem wonky in the way it works. For me.... Using the same group of cameras, previously it said I had 6 x 2K cameras and 5 x 4K cameras. I looked at Protect today and it says 6 x 2K and 6 x 4K. Going through my list of cameras it seems it now has started classifying one of my 4MP...

    Unifi Protect Calculator Tool

Anyone try the capacity calculator tool on Ubiquiti's website? Seems vastly inaccurate. According to this my cloudkey running Network and Protect can only do five 4K cameras. Currently I have five 4K and seven 2K before it tells me it is exceeding the limit. Looking at the stats, I am not...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

I would say it has to do with the ONVIF profile. IVS would usually be in a different profile than motion detection. I would say motion detection would be "Profile T". IVS would be "Profile M". Then again it depends on which profiles the camera supports and whether or not there is full...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

As far as I know.... Basic motion detection just goes off of pixel changes in the area that is set up for motion detection. So it could be from shadows or anything. Smart motion detection they would go by the shape of the pixel changes. Most popular would be human and vehicle. So if the...

Solar Wireless Bridge 2 camera recommendations

From my experience here is what I did and used.... 2 x 100 watt solar panels (Must point them south) - Can wire in parallel or serial depending on solar charge controller. If wiring panel in parallel then you would need branch connectors which is just a "Y" adapter. Solar charge controller - a...

Yeah. For these two they are Hikvision. With that being said I remember on a different camera a while back that I figured it out and fixed it. I believe I just changed it to H264 instead of H265. I'll have to test it out and confirm. I logged into a camera last week and was scratching my...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

Speaking of AI Port.... Anyone adding cameras in using ONVIF and the AI port seems to add strange lines to the image when trying to play the "HQ" stream? Example: It doesn't do it in "auto" or "LQ". It also doesn't do it with every camera. Very strange.

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

On my AI ports, the thing that annoys me is the resolution limit. The max resolution won't support some cameras with a crazy aspect ratio such as some pano cameras. End up needing to lower the resolution on those as the horizontal spec is over the range. Also their definition of a 2K camera...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

I've never had my cloudkey corrupt itself so I may just be lucky. I have had my cloudkey gen 2 plus running for roughly over five years now. Now I have had issues with it though. Mine is one of the original versions of those that has the battery that goes bad and bloats/expands. Had to tear...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

I don't get any triggers on my cameras not added to the AI port. I have a few 8MP pano cameras which the resolution is higher than what the AI port supports. Just my luck that I am also not able to drop the resolution on one of them. Now the million dollar question is.... Are you suppose to...

It looks like better ONVIF support is coming to UniFi Protect

I feel the latest update is a step backward on Unifi Protect. Now for my setup I am using all Hikvision and Dahua cameras. AI Port for all of the cameras. With the latest update... Actually I believe since the last two updates or whichever one that supposedly added ONVIF motion support, the...

    1/1.2" 8MP Varifocal

Looking at the night time video... I wonder if the camera is programmed with a priority for license plates. I know LPR is a function the camera can do from the camera itself. Reason why I say this... Playing the video... I keep pressing pause and play and pause and play randomly... The...

    1/1.2" 8MP Varifocal

I remember reading on the Ubiquiti website for some cameras that upon first power-on, the built in heater would turn on for six hours to remove moisture inside the camera. If there is still moisture after that then to unplug it and replug and the heater would run for another six hours. Or that...

    1/1.2" 8MP Varifocal

Not too shabby honestly. I did watch the clip a few times. First time I thought it was blurry. Then realized that the video clip was playing at 480P. Changed it to 4K and it was a night and day difference. Now for the night time clip... Thanks for the video!

    Hikvision camera selection

If it is Hikvision branded then you would download the firmware from hikvision. If it is a Hikvision OEM product then you would get the firmware from that company. You are able to upgrade the firmware yourself.

    Hikvision camera selection

From what I can see, both the NVR and the camera are not discontinued. Here is the page for Hikvision to search for discontinued products. https://www.hikvision.com/en/products/discontinued-products/ Also when you go to the product page for the NVR and the camera it does not show "EOL" or...

I don't think a "Smart Home" and Home Automation is the same thing

I feel less and less people use Google Home and Alexa now. The fact that the mics are always on and transferring data to those companies is disturbing. Then there was what they can do when you have your home automation dependent on their service. I remember there was this one situation where...

    Hikvision camera selection

I would say the turrets are easier to rotate. Turrets basically have two parts. We have the mounting bracket and then the camera (eyeball) itself. There is a locking screw to lock down the position. This is like a "ball and socket". So where usually a bullet would have three screws needed...

    Hikvision camera selection

Smart supplemental light is just the camera being able to raise and lower the camera's light intensity automatically. So this could apply to both the IR or white light. I would usually have this setting on. The theory is if you set the light at a certain intensity.... If the person is close...

    Hikvision camera selection

Not sure what it means by four light modes. As far as I know, there are two illumination modes. White light or IR. These two are the types of actual lighting. When you mention mode then here is what I think off..... Day mode (Off) - No lights are turn on from the camera itself. So no IR or...

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet AND Blue Iris

I wish I had that luck with my connection. Originally I got roughly 750 down and 400 up consistently. I guess my neighbors have jumped onto T-mobile also. I get 400 down and only 20-50 up. I did connect an external waveform antenna to the modem and went into the menu to change to external...

Is CCA cable really that bad? Should I rip it out?

I know electrical wire they do have some CCA that is UL certified. The brand that comes to mind is CopperWeld. So UL certification for CCA is possible. Do they have it for network cable? No idea. Please don't think that I am endorsing the use of CCA cabling. But if someone already has it...

Is CCA cable really that bad? Should I rip it out?

Yes. CCA IS super brittle. When I had my house built, I wanted it prewired and was surprised to find out that the standard charge... the cables included was for running the lines using CCA. OFC wiring was an expensive upgrade. I would say most people probably didn't ask what kind of wiring...
