max bitrate

I have tried searching on the forums but couldn’t find an answer. Is direct to disk recording limited to the 8kbps that the streaming is, or is that only for re encoded video? I was wondering if I set my bit rate to the highest in the web interface for the camera will it record at that bitrate...
