I am doing some wiring and might need another power supply for my Huisun PTZ cam. I already have a good POE switch and thought I was ordering a Huisun with POE but got stiffed by Huisun and was sent a non POE unit.

OK, not going to stomp my feet at Huisun and get this fixed.

I have a 12V 2.5A power supply but it is dubious it will work over long Cat5e run. Tested it with 200 ft of cat5e good cable and it does not provide enough power. Not sure of it is volts or watts...

Was looking around for another power supply and found these 48V POE to 12V POE converters and thought that would be good to use my POE switch and knock it down to 12V with a converter right at the camera.

So any one use one of these?

These guys are supposed to have them but the unit shown has no 12V pigtail

Just get a PoE splitter to use at the camera (with your PoE switch):

right. voltage drop though thin wires over 200 ft is too much, which is why PoE uses 24-48 volts...

Thanks pozzello.

I think it was klasipca that pointed these out to me before and I did not take a good look and realize exactly what it was. It is exactly what I linked to in this thread in the first post.

Now that you pointed this out to again, thanks a lot by the way, I get what it is. I see it works with POE and takes the 48V down to 12V.

Ordering one tonight as it will allow me to "not bother" with my extra power supply I'm using right now.

I just found out I can't mount my cam in the original intended location without doing surgery to my roof and, that is not going to happen just to install a cam.

I have to mount the cam on my "other chimney" more towards the center of my roof, with this location I'm losing the view of the yard but I can still see everything else and I figure above 4 power zoom level I wont see the top edge of my roof ether. Bonus, its closer to where my switch will be in my garage so the length of my cable will be a good 20' shorter.

Thanks
Robert
