I'm looking at getting a 7608NI-E2/8P to be the foundation of a new IP system at my residence. I don't have a crystal ball but am planning on the following IP cameras:
- 2 4mp hikvisions
- 5 3mp hikvisions

1) I understand that he 7608 has a 50 Mbps throughput. Using the attached bandwidth calculator, will I be ok running the number of cameras that I have listed ? The calculator shows that even using 5mp cameras (which I am not), the bandwidth is about 42 Mbps.

2) Is the incoming bandwidth limitation affected whether I have the system set on continuous or motion only? In other words, I doubt all 7 cameras will be sensing motion at the same time. Does that decrease the amount of bandwidth the camera sends to the NVR or is the bandwidth constant whether or not the nvr is actually recording?

There is a wealth of knowledge on this site. I hope someone can educate me on this.

The latest US released firmware 3.3.4 increases the throughput to 80 Mbps.

Regardless of whether you have it set to continuous or motion recording the NVR is still receiving the live feed at whatever bitrate you set.
