Adding cameras to Smart PSS and NVR

Hello
Just been setting up some cameras using Smart PSS which seems user friendly and noticed that you can add the devices using the IP or the serial number or both
I also have a couple of wireless Imou devices which will appear twice in the system if you use the wireless and cable at the same time and if you plug cameras directly
into the NVR they have their own separate separate IP range.
If you turn off the internet the cameras addia via serial go off line but the cameras added by IP remain online so long as you are connected to the same LAN
What strategy does everyone else use for connecting cameras ?

If you’re using an NVR with PoE ports, the NVR assigns (by default) an IP to each port in the 10.1.1.x range.
Using SmartPSS on an NVR on the LAN , I add the NVR to SmartPSS (by LAN IP) not the individual cameras. Then you will see the cameras associated with that NVR whether they use the NVR ports or are connected to it via an external switch.
This can also be used to connect to the NVR/cameras via VPN when remote.

For remote viewing using P2P I can alternately add the NVR again using the QR code /serial and enable P2P on the NVR.
A 2nd NVR profile if you will that uses Dahua P2P servers to make the connection. So yes it goes dead if not connected to the Interwebs

I like to tinker so on two remote NVRs I manage, I have a 3rd profile setup for direct WAN IP connection via port forwarding on their respective routers. Though as you can see its not enabled and I only use that for certain testing as its not a secure way of doing things

Just trying to get my head around it all so when I install the system in it's new home which is many miles away I can connect
and configure it remotely. I have two NVR's one of which is an Imou brand without POE probably go with this and use a Netgear POE
switch for the cameras. The Zyxel NR5103e 4g LTE router should just plug in and connect

To manage an NVR remotely, you need to use a vpn and login to the actual NVR, and cameras.
Dont try to use Smartpss to manage, make settings etc. it’s a great live viewer, playback and download app - full stop.

ALL settings than CAN be made on the camera interface directly SHOULD be made on the camera interface directly.

Would that mean port forwarding etc because this 4g LTE stuff is problematic at the conventional level

No, I dont advocate port forwarding.
As I mentioned, use a VPN like OPenVPN or Wireguard to connect to your remote NVR via browser, and from the NVR to your cameras using its PoE ports is the preferred method

Sorry not an expert on 4G, 5G or LTE connections

I don't think that's possible with this 4g router and my only option from what I can see is using P2P

Yes P2P is a viable alternative. I use it often

I have my cameras listed in SmartPSS and when i click the "link to web" on a camera it takes me to a browser login screen
like this and I can use a VPN like Proton VPN when I'm connecting -Is this the method you would use ?dahua cam.png

When you get to the browser login screen you're in. Simply login and do what you need to do. No need for a VPN on top, you're in via P2P
