Hello, members. I'm a retired Canadian who's pretty tech savvy but not up with what can and can't be done with security cameras. I have a vacation house that I want to install a security camera in. Because I only use it occasionally it needs to be a wired system. It's an old, masonry-constructed three storey home with a vaulted stone entry suite. There is a location in the courtyard that has an existing external light fitting that would be a perfect for a camera overlooking the entrance gate and that I can spur off for power supply. However, because it would be a problem getting an ethernet cable back to the modem from this location, if possible I'd like the internet connection to be done wirelessly.
I'd also like to get alerts and monitor the system remotely but would prefer to avoid a subscription.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions and advice on configuring the system, and for recommendations on good quality cameras and other hardware that would be needed. Thanks.
