Is the AI checkbox supposed to be checked as a trigger source if I am using CPAI?

Perhaps I'm getting it wrong, but my reading of the help PDF is that the AI checkbox action filter is applicable only when 'Continuous AI analysis' is enabled as a trigger source.

That is a new feature on a version I haven't gone up to you.

But from the chatter in other posts, it appears as if it is as @jaydeel says that you have to have continuous AI checked.

Personally don't know but I do have it enabled on all my camera channels that I have setup in Bi.. I didn't look I just know that I am using CPAi so I thought that was to be enabled so I did..

Are the cameras alerting for your CPAI triggered cameras as expected or not?

If they are, can you turn off continuous AI in one of the cameras and trigger it and confirm whether this box needs to be checked or not?

Ok now I have to figure out what happened lol. All I did was log in to Bi and unchecked it and now the camera won't come back online.. So need to find out where the issue is. I rebooted the Bi computer and still showing offline Grrrrr.. Even after clicking the Ai and trying to see if that would do it didn't help so I reboot computer camera still off line lol. I will figure it out. As you can see though on the left it was triggering Ai before I turned it off..

Now that is odd and a new one! Only thing I can think of is BI is trying unsuccessfully to find via MAC instead of IP?

Maybe hit find/inspect again?

So removed the camera and added it back and it is back online, I will have to let it trigger again and then disable the Ai.. The Ai and all the boxes were checked when I added it back so this time didn't have to add it. Not sure if that was off all my others already have it added so it just added back as it was setup ? Don't know..

So this last picture I have it back with Ai working. I checked with one that went by and Ai, was captured. So Then i went to turn off Unchecked that Ai Ai and I again waited and a UPS went by and it still seen it in Ai without that Ai being checked..

My recollection is that the new 'AI' filter was enabled by default when the 'Continuous AI analysis' as a 'Source' feature was introduced in the Trigger' tab in 5.9.8.

This enabled-by-default setting is consistent with all the other trigger filters in the 'Trigger sources and zones' box in the 'Configure xxx action' dialog.

I'd say that is expected per the help PDF, because the triggering source on the camera's Trigger tab was either 'Motion sensor' or 'ONVIF/cameras events', and 'Motion zones' or 'ONVIF' (likely both) was enabled as a source filter in the 'Configure xxx action' dialog

Thank you. I personally don't know much about Bi.. One of them things I don't look at often. Funny thing is had an App alert today while I was off my local network but never get any alerts while on my LAN? Oh well.. Yeah I have the Bi Phone app.. Don't look at it much either lol. But oh well..

Thank you love to learn.

I have 2 cameras that have it checked and 5 that don't All are using BI and I can't tell a difference. The ones checked and the ones unchecked BI functions fine on.

I'm on 5.9.9.17.

Thanks @jaydeel I am not sure what this means but it looks like I am supposed to select it to use AI as a trigger? It has been working so I am not sure what this adds.

I've not tested this myself, but my assumptions are that:
  • The 'AI' filter setting DOES NOT matter if setting Trigger tab > 'Continuous AI analysis' is DISABLED.
  • The 'AI' filter setting DOES matter if setting Trigger tab > 'Continuous AI analysis' is ENABLED.
Unless I've misunderstood them, I've not noted any results reported by other users that are inconsistent with these assumptions.

EDIT: I think the only way to fully test the 2nd assumption is to disable the other sources on the Trigger tab ('Motion sensor' and 'ONVIF').

I'm curious in hearing from users that are actually using the Trigger tab > 'Continuous AI analysis' setting...

Are you noticing significantly higher CPU/GPU usage?

I've just started running my own test today.

I finally studied the Help PDF about the Trigger tab > 'Continuous AI analysis' feature. **

It's targeted at users who want to not consider static objects when analyzing a frame. Ken also notes that it's also a very powerful feature that is able to detect both abandoned or missing objects, along with simple object presence without relying on motion detection.

By default it checks every 120 seconds. Or every 20 seconds if objects are detected to have moved. So I doubt it's much of a resource hog.

For testing, I've enabled it for my driveway/street cameras.

I don't have a problem that I'm trying to solve. I'd be interested in hearing about specific use cases for this feature, if anyone has one.

** BTW, locating the correct section of the PDF was a bit confusing at first because the 'Help' button on the dialog currently lands on the wrong chapter section. (in 5.9.34 anyway; I've emailed Ken).
