After i stopped using deepstack BI rarely reports above 10% CPU usage

I guess the thing to try is to turn off recording of every camera and see if it improves the live view. If it does then you know for sure. If it doesn't, it could still be an issue.

But clearly nobody here is experiencing what you do or we wouldn't be using BI!

Milestone XProtect free is very bloated in my admittedly limited experience with it.

If I couldn't stand Blue Iris anymore, I'd sooner try either shinobi or ispy:
