Another motion detection thread. What's the best way to stop false alerts from shadows?

My driveway is usually covered in shadows from a few huge oak trees. We moved in a year ago and I got around to installing my cameras in the winter when the trees were bare. Now that there's leaves on all of the trees, the motion detection is pretty much useless in the day time.

It's currently set to continuous record, I just have motion alerts enabled in case I miss something. It's just annoying when I open the BI app and see 350 alerts.

Is there a setting that can be adjusted that would eliminate or lessen the amount of motion alerts?

You could try defining different motion zones along with a set of rules that requires an object to move from one zone to another. It won't be perfect but it should be able to cut out a lot of the shadow nonsense.
