Any Idea how to get an IP cam working with a range extender?

Is it even possible? Tried with a Netgear range extender and a Trendnet injector. Both are known to be working.

I set my cam with a static IP address.

But seems the cam is being assigned a different IP address by the range extender. SI can't detect the cam with either IP address.

I cant make the range extender an access point (would require cabling to the main router)

What does work is connecting a POE switch to the main router or any part of the mesh system. But that is not what I want to do.

Any reason why my desired setup doesnt work?

Thank you!

Are you wanting to turn a wired camera into a wireless camera ?

If so, range extenders are typically just repeaters and cannot run in a client mode.

Some wireless routers can be configured to run in client mode; you log into it, assign it a unique static IP in the same subnet as you fuctioning router but outside the functioning router's DHCP pool, have it locate your wireless SSID and log into it then plug it into the IP camera's Ethernet.

The IP camera would also have a static IP assigned to under same criteria as the client-mode wireless router.

I've used this TP-LINK device to make wired network cameras, laser printers and game machines wireless. However it runs on 5VDC such as a USB phone charger or a USB port =>TP-Link N300 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router(TL-WR802N) - WiFi Bridge/Range Extender/Access Point/Client Modes, Mobile in Pocket

FWIW, many routers can operate in client mode with 3rd party firmware update when available but that can be a complicated procedure in itself.
