Any issues in recording directly to NAS without video management software?

I currently have 4 camera licenses on my Synology NAS and would like to add more cameras. Instead of buying additional camera license at a costly $60 each, it just occured to me I can have the new cameras record directly onto the NAS (without going through Synology Surveillance Station). I normally use Tinycam for live viewing anyway, and can always use any viewer to look at historical videos if I ever need (rarely). And I will still benefit from having all videos secure on the NAS.

I just wanted to check if there is anything I'm missing by not going through a video managemnet software like Surveillance Station to record (other than missing its various functionalities). Thanks!
