I'd like to be able to attach a dome camera in a conference room to a hanging projector but use velcro so that the static z axis can be adjusted on the fly. It would hang upside down, has anyone done this with success or would it eventually pull away? Industrial strength velcro?

The Velcro grip will be more durable long term than the grip of the glue to the camera, particularly if the base isn't smooth. I bet it is irregular for rigidity. Heat generated by the camera will make the glue soft and let go faster. For a light plastic dome with smooth surface for the glue to grab and lots of Velcro I'd think you'd be fine for a long time though. If the base has lots of crossbracing then I'm thinking no.
