I am looking to purchase a couple cameras with audio. I recently purchased a 4mp turret with built in mic, but the audio is unusable. Do the 2mp starlight varifocal turrets have a built in mic or audio in? What is the best solution for a sub $200 6mm or varifocal 2-4 mp camera with good.audio? I assume an audio in is preferred over a built in mic? I have cat 6 and 12v everywhere I need it so 12v is not a problem. Thoughts? Thanks!

the starlight varifocal turret has built in mic, its quite good but dont expect it to work at very great distances.. it'll pickup a conversation clear as day within say 10ft or so and loud noises like gunshots/fireworks much further than it can see.

the starlight varifocal bullet has an audio in and you can hook a more sensitive or remote mic up to cover distance.

next to doors/entries/chokes built in is better imho, ready to go.. if your using 12mm to watch a target 35ft away and nobody will be near the camera, you'd want an external mic.. perhaps remotely installed to pickup conversations there.

as always check your local laws/regulations, audio recording is often illegal.. so having highly sensitive mics recording conversations on public property might be a crime.
