The camera has two 3.5 mm jacks. One for audio in and one for audio out. The camera data sheet does not list any specifications or pinouts for either port. It also do not specify if the plug is a TRS or TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) or the connections for mike audio in. Also there is no information as to the electrical specifications. Is this a line or mike in? What is the acceptable level? For a mike it would range from -60 to -40 dBu.

And for the output plug there is also needed information. Is this line level, speaker level, etc. Plus connections. Does this require an audio preamp and then an amplifier to drive a loud speaker? And if speaker level what is the speaker impedance (4 ohm, 8 ohm, 16 ohm) and the power out (1/2 watt, 1 watt, etc.)

Would appreciate any information that would be helpful. Perhaps there is a service manual that would include this data.

So far initial testing indicates great night time performance in full color. Plus the camera comes with a included base, a plus in my book.

Thank you,

On the back of the camera the audio ports are pink for IN and green for OUT. Both are TRRS or 4 wire ports as indicated in the image. Starting at the tip of the plug, this is used for the plus side of audio IN. The next ring is connected to the tip. Thus it would appear both are connected in parallel. Either could be used for the plus audio connection. The next ring is not connected to anything in my opinion. The sleeve is common or ground and also chassis ground. The IN audio would be tip or first ring for the plus side and sleeve for the ground or minus side. Will test using a TRS 3 wire plug as this could also work. A TS 2 wire plug will NOT work as it shorts out the first ring past the tip to ground.

Tested with a -30 dB signal which is 10 dB hotter than mike level. No distortion with plenty of audio using headphones on the computer. It would appear that the audio in for the Dahua 5242 bullet camera input is at mike level. The NVR setting in use does not present a choice of line or mike. Only line in my case.

Additional information confirming this connection scenario would be appreciated for those with the same camera.

Tested the Dahua HFW 5242 bullet camera with a three pin TRS jack for audio using the Internet Explore camera interface with 100% success.

Tip - Plus mike level audio
Ring - No connection
Sleeve - ground or minus audio

The Microseven M7WP-MIC waterproof outdoor microphone works well with the 5242 camera with plenty of audio to spare.

However, the POE to 12 VDC (POE Splitter - M7-POESP12V), sold by Microseven, does not work with the 5242 as the splitter does not carry all 8 CAT-5E wires from input to output. The splitter will supply 12 VDC for the mike but will not supply 48 VDC to the camera due to the missing CAT-5E connections.

However, if looking to purchase the Microseven mike, check both Amazon and the Microseven store. At the time of purchase, the mike was $2 less on the Microseven store than on Amazon. Plus both offered free shipping. For Amazon the delivery date was 10 days out. For Micorseven it was shipped the same day as ordered.
