I am looking to buy a security camera that will have sd card storage and is battery operated.
It has to have a very good sensor that will pick up people as they come down my front path.
The camera will be placed above the porcg door..the end of the path is aproximately 30' away.
I have tried 6 different cameras all purchased on Amazon and while they work to a certain extent non start recording until I am about 1/3rd of the way down the path.
Can any recommend a battery operated camera that has a long range sensor option.
Thank you

That is pretty typical of battery powered cameras in that they are not "on" constantly, but rather do a periodic "on" to look for motion and that is why it misses you.

And we have an entire thread dedicated to showing this with just about every battery operated camera out there.

Go with POE or this will be a frequent occurrence...

all the cameras I have tried do pick up human movement. The issue is I want a camera that would pick up someone walking past the gate or as they start to come down the path.

I can see the forum that is headed Camera Installation..but where do I go from there..can you advise please.

That's a product of a cheap camera, the periodic on function of a battery operated camera so that the battery doesn't drain quickly, and trying to do too much with one field of view.

Can you point me in the direction of the battery powered thread please.
Is there a battery powered camera that records 24/7 so that when the camera picks up activity I can go back 10 seconds and see it all ?
The problem is there is no socket for a wired camera in the porch...so it has to be battery powered.

There isn't any unless you spend big bucks. The cheap ones just don't have big enough batteries to run all night, so they will periodically turn on to sense for motion - could be every 10 seconds, 2 seconds, or minutes.

So you do not have an outlet or porch light anywhere near where you want to put the camera?

This thread isn't specifically related to battery powered, but many of them shown in here are battery powered.

Here was the most recent thread about a 24/7 battery powered camera - basically pay a ton or build your own:

the only way to get power into the porch is to use the light swirch and run a cable. Will have to think this through. Thanks for the thread link.

You could get an adapter to screw into a porch outlet and run it by 12vdc. Maybe use powerline adapter to run data over existing electric lines.
