I am wanting to get a dash camera for my vehicles. What brand/model should I be looking at? Thank you for any input as I have never used a dash cam yet.

I bought the Garmin 47 and Its helped with one accident where we got sideswiped. I like that it shows all the data you need to help with date time speed and location.
But I think I'd like to try one on my next car that has a front and rear cam.
Garmin mini 2 is easy to use.
They both have an App where you can review incidents on your phone.

"Best" is subjective. You need to define what it is you want from a cam. Then find one that fits the bill.

Better get one with front and rear cams, since most accidents I see these days are some idiot playing on phone and running into the back of you. Look at these, since they have SONY STARVIS 2 image sensors.

yes you need to protect yourself! I started with the Vantrue E1 but soon realized i needed a rear cam to for the tailgaters. I have been rear-ended before and the girls excuse was.........i have no breaks.
Just an FYI, this guy had a Viofo A229 Pro fail in a real accident. Not known if it's widespread with that model or not...
