BI locking up during some convert/exports

While doing convert/exports sometimes BI (5.0.9.1) will either freeze during the 1st few seconds of conversion or completely shut itself down. This happens on some clips and just will not convert/export these - I've rerun the process several times because of course these are some of the best clips from my woods camera
Other clips from the same camera are fine.

Any suggestions to what I might look for?

Oh no
Its worse than I thought. . .
I just looked at clips that appeared to convert/export correctly. Those files are corrupt.
