I have a windows server 2016 hyper-v host. BI4 is running on a windows 8.1 hyper-v guest for many years. With virtual 4 cores guest, CPU is always maxed out between 88-98% for 6 low resolution cameras. I am planning to add a video card (nvidia quadro) on the host and use remotefx (virtualized GPU) for all guests. I don't want to directly passthrough the GPU to the guest because only one guest can use the GPU. I'd like to know if BI supports hardware acceleration for remotefx. Remotefx supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.4 and OpenCL 1.1. I am not an expert on video decode and not sure how BI is implemented for hardware acceleration. By the way, running BI on virtual guest is a good solution for any BI upgrade issues since you can take snapshot and roll back easily if anything doesn't work.

I doubt the hardware acceleration will work without passing through the GPU. Each manufacturer uses proprietary hardware acceleration APIs, not anything standard like OpenCL.

You would be better off improving efficiency in other ways or assigning more cores.
