BI5 with NAS recording issues

Had to replace the work PC and couldn't locate our license for BI4, so purchased and installed 5 using imported settings from 4 (Win 10 machine).
I'm doing all of my recording to a hardwired NAS in another building. This is mapped as the Z: drive. If I set the recording folder as z:\BlueIris. it appears that everything is working, except that if you attempt to play a clip it returns an error that the selected clip cant be found (can get exact syntax if it matters, but I don't think its relevant), and there are no recordings in the Z:\BlueIris folder.
IF, however, I point to the same location as \\diskstation\nas\BlueIris, then quit and restart the program, it will record there as expected. Unfortunately a reboot takes us back to where we were, with no actual recordings made, even though the drive/folder is reachable via Windows Explorer.

Hope this makes sense. Where to go from here?
