Hey everyone, I need some help with a client that uses Blue Iris.

They now want to setup at a storage Unit facility. I need a higher end outdoor, motorized, weatherproof camera that is BI compatible. License plate read capabilities is a plus, or a high def so they are readable.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide..

This is a decent PTZ for ~$350 USD: Dahua 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera (SD49225T-HN)

However for the most part PTZ is a toy if you aren't employing someone to sit and monitor/control the camera.

This is similar but without pan and tilt, and a smaller zoom range, for ~$160 USD: Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

There are alternative -Z5 and -Z12 models with different zoom ranges if you need more zoom.

For $100 or so there are fixed-focus versions of these cameras (no zoom lens).

You can find cheaper or higher resolution cameras but not with the quality of night vision these provide.

License plate capture is a bit of a challenge particularly at night because you need to force exposure to be fast enough that the plates are sharp and not washed out. A camera tuned for license plate capture doesn't see much at night besides headlights and license plates. Many varifocal cameras struggle to autofocus correctly in this situation, and this isn't helped any by Dahua's buggy zoom/focus API making it hard even for an external script to manually control the focus.
