The hole in the nest box is 3 inches in diameter. Plenty of light bounced around the pale wood walls so that the 2.8 lens on the camera could easily handle the situation. I actually had the opposite problem. Shafts of raw sunlight would intrude and blow out the images of the birds. I ended up angling the box toward the north east.
