Camera Alternative to IPC-HDW5231R-Z

Wondering why the IPC-HDBW5231R-Z is not more widely chosen over the Turret version.

Looks like they both have the same chip and basic functions. The biggest difference obviously is the HDBW is a domed version. If you use an external IR for night use to avoid reflections from the dome, what could be the biggest negatives to not using this camera?

Anyone on the forum use this model?

Thanks,

Domes suck

  • The plastics will sunburn with direct exposure to UV and cloud up.
  • the way water runs over curved surfaces it fucks with images in weather, then leaves big spots that fuck with image.
  • they need cleaning far more frequently
  • they distort the image if your mounting at harsh angles (90 degrees)
  • external lighting can still fuck w/em, headlamps and reflectors and all sorts of things bleed in on image
  • vandalism of cameras at residence is very rare, and domes are easier to permanent damage.. getting spraypaint off glass: easy, off curved plastic: lots of polishing gonna be needed.
  • If using IR they attract bugs like none other, the entire dome glows in IR
  • If using IR they are much harder to mount in tight areas without fogging up
  • they are a pain in the fucking ass to frame correctly
  • your far more likely to leave tool marks on em after working over your head forever trying to get it aimed right.

Why you want a dome so badly? Turrets even look better.. the only reason to choose a dome over turret is if you really need the vandal resistance, like multi-unit dwellings, public parks, and are willing to spend much more effort keeping the domes clean.

Thanks for asking this. I've been wondering this as well as I try to make my first purchase.
I've read some of the negatives that nayer mentioned, but wasn't aware of all of them.

I've owned one dome previously (analog) and it was glass. Since the specs indicate IP67
and vandal-proof and don't indicate plastic, I would have thought this would be glass and not
suffer from the fogging issue.

how would glass be vandal-proof? go out side with a hammer and beat on the glass windows, then the plastic headlamps on your car.. leme know which one failed with the least effort.

IK10 rating can take a 20 Joule impact, which is Protection against a 5Kg (11lb) object dropped from 40cm (16in).. Your smartphone with special impact resistance Gorilla Glass wont come close to surviving that.
