Hey guys, I was wondering what you guys did for instances where you use a box camera externally? I'm trying to setup a new box camera with a 11-40mm lens (HV1140D-8MPIR) connected to a Hikvision DS-2CD4065F-A camera. I checked out Hikvision's site for camera housings but they seem not to included any IRs on the box. I'm putting the camera for a electronic gate that is pretty dark and there won't be sufficient lighting for it to see anything without some IR illuminators or light.

Should I install some type of floodlight or light source for the camera or should I go with the camera housing that has built-in IRs on it? If I do go that route, would the PoE be enough to power the box plus the camera? I don't think it would be.

You have a lot more options if you go for an external IR illuminator, you also avoid the problem of spiders building webs across the front of the housing. There are also POE illuminators available. They cost more than a cocaine habit though.
