Hello! I've been lurking thru this site for several years when I started playing with Blue Iris several years ago, and was going to run a PC-based camera system. Then my wife goes and buys a Swann system from Costco and has it installed....Ok, now that the NVR has died, it's time to go to PC-based BI system!
I was able to connect BI to the Swann cameras after several nights of research and brute force, to find out someone put the camera addresses on the home network, which actually makes sense in retrospect. Finding the password was a challenge but I found my way in with perseverance, and BI find the camera immediately! Win!
I now have a repurposed computer dedicated to Blue Iris and 9 cameras. The home network is Omada ER605 with the controller (rock solid, BTW), on 192.168.0.XXX. I am familiar with setting up simple VLANs on the Omada. The second dedicated computer/camera network will be on 192.168.10.XXX. The cameras connect to an unmanaged POE+ switch. Wife wants to be able to view the cameras over internet/app thru the internet-connected home network. There will be 1 CAT 6 cable run from the BI computer to the to the unmanaged home network switch or directly to the ER605, whichever you recommend.
This has probably been hashed and rehashed a million times, and it should be easy to explain to a newbie, but much searching has given me overload. "Set a rule in the VLAN", "TAG/UNTAG" is not self explanatory to me at this stage of learning. I'm looking for a guide, guides or guidance that will help me with 2 basic things:
1. How to interface the BI camera network to the home network and so that networks don't talk to each other and wife can see cameras over the internet, but not get hacked in the process; Do I need a VLAN 10 on the router?
2. I want connect to the BI camera computer from my home network desktop (maybe thru Remote Connect app in windows?) to manage BI settings and changes.
Easy, right? Thanks for you help and consideration.
