I've been getting help with the PTZ camera here. (Thanks again!) I've also got three fixed locations where I don't want PTZ. I just want to be sure I'm on the right track. I'm looking at Empiretech cameras. Just to confirm - if I get a 1/1.8 sensor I should stick with 4MP resolution, correct?

First location is about 50 feet from the area of interest. I would like to use this camera: EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 1/1.8" CMOS 4MP IR Starlight 2.7mm–12mm Var

But I don't think it will identify at that distance. Which takes me to this camera: EmpireTech 1/1.8" CMOS 4MP IR Vari-focal Bullet Network Camera IPC-B54IR-Z4E-S3

That has much more zoom capability than I need, but I can just zoom to the level I want/need. I only see fixed focal cameras in the 2.8 and 3.6mm, sometimes a 6mm. So when I'm up around 12 to 15mm, vari-focal is my best/only choice?

The second location only needs about 20 feet to identify. I think the t54 above will work for that?

The third location is giving me problems. It is 50 feet from the camera to the garage, so that is the max distance. But I'd like to cover an area about 40 feet across. I think the compromise is going to be using the t54 above, pick the angle that gives me the view I want, and live with as much identify distance as I can get. We can't bend the laws of physics, I can either have wide field of view or I can have good detail at 50 feet. The only "solution" to my problem is two cameras splitting the field, and it's not worth that. The only other factor that helps me is that the PTZ can move to cover this area. So I can use an IVS rule on this camera to link the PTZ to a preset and hope it finds the object and autotracks it. I have played with that feature, so I have no reason to think it won't work.

Thanks.
