There are hills where I live and lots of nice views, however because the area has been developed any camera would have to be mounted on a high place. Church steeples are one place, on top of utility poles another or possibly on the top of tall buildings or water towers. I know there are some cameras with "fisheye" or other wind angle style lenses, although in looking at images it looks like the images have been processed to remove all the curvature a true fisheye lens creates in the image. In some cases, like on a steeple sometimes not at the very top, but near the top there are some openings to let the sound of the bell out. I wonder if in these cases a number of cameras might be able to be used, each pointing in a different directions, but with a wide enough angle that they overlap and their signals might be stitched together to get one or more panorama from the same array of cameras, similar to stitching still images together to make a panorama. That might make getting to that spot a little easier from inside the steeple versus using a steeplejack service to mount them at the very top.
On top of utility poles, water towers would be a quite a bit different and on top of tall buildings, maybe on a mast seems like would be easier with the buildings being the easiest.
I'm just looking into what it might take to do this in general and for each type of site and the cost for the camera system an cost to install, etc and things to consider regarding maintenance, structural integrity and that sort of thing.
I am only thinking about providing some nice scenic panoramic feeds, maybe from multiple directions or views. No intention of surveillance use.
I know a little about cameras but nothing about IP cameras. It seems like other have probably done this sort of thing a lot. Seems like there should be some good information on this sort of application and how best to go about doing this on the various sorts of places I mentioned that are avaiable.
Thanks in advance.
