I have a smonet/zosi style 4 channel wireless wifi nvr with 4 wireless cameras.. i get random loss of one or 2 cameras and it just says no video.. the cameras will connect then when i look online with app will randomly say no video.. the cameras are very close to the nvr like 20 feet away.. the nvr is connected to rounter with ethernet cable... the walls are just wood or drywall... the nvr is placed near my ring hub, hue lights hub and my cable box... we have kids gaming and i have a fast internet speed... any ideas why it keeps droping? its driving me crazy,.. just want it to work like it should.
thanks

WiFi cameras streaming all of their video through your router.

WiFi cameras, particularly more than 1-2 will bog down your network and drop signal because your router can’t keep up.

thanks for the reply.. i have the newest best quality router xfinity white rectangular tube one.. with super high speed.. kids play games and use audio and video and there is no dropping.. why would the cameras drop???

Because those other devices buffer and convert the signal on the device.

The cameras are streaming wide open with no buffer.

I have a very expensive Netgear router made for a 3000+ sq ft home and live in a small 1200 sq ft home. I have 2 WiFi cameras I only live view occasionally. They don’t stream 24/7 or record to anything other than their own SD cards.

If I stream them to record to my NVR, it slows the network and they eventually start the dropping out then back on thing.

Ohhh... also - the problem is not so much the router... the cameras that connect to the nvr disconnect between the camera and the nvr - even when the nvr is not connected to the router... so my issue is the camera connectivity between the camera and the nvr... does that make sense??
oh.. also.. my foscam wifi cam works fine all the time so does my xfinity camera i was given by cable company as a gift... they all work perfect... is it because they are only one??

The stream goes through the router .

Unplug your router. Turn the power off.

Do your cameras still stream to your NVR?

oh... i have never tried that.... but how does it work? camera to route, then from router over ethernet to the nvr???

i though the cameras and the nvr were seperate ( from router ) and you didnt even need and internet connection to use it - the cam and nvr...
wow... if thats he case and it goes through the router then maybe its jammed up....

also then why is there an antenna on back of nvr?????

Internet connection and wifi are two completely separate things. You can have one without the other.

I don’t know the details of your system. I’m speaking to wifi cameras in general.

Unplug your router and test it

In that case your router speed is irrelevant and not part of the equation and it is simply the cheap zosi unit cannot keep up with the video and/or interference from other devices making the signal not as strong.

One of the many reasons most here are not fans of wifi cams.

ok.. got it... but are there any solutions i can try to keep this online without dropping??? seems to be a common question.. but my bloody cameras are like 20 feet from the nvr..... thats pretty lame!!

Yes it is a common question lol

Hard wire them lol.

Or get as many wifi devices out of your home as you can.

Or drop resolution and bitrate and FPS until the demand is low enough that they don't drop.

As pointed out, unlike other devices, these cameras don't buffer and a dropped packet and it has to resend and enough of those and then you lose signal.

So those arent wifi cameras?

I see, they are, but the NVR has its own 2.4 WiFi signal

connect to NVR by its own 2.4Ghz cordless signal rather than your home WiFi

cut the stream quality and FPS to lowest and see how it reacts.....like 720 p and 10 FPS....if it doesn't drop the feed, ,, the Zosi unit is suspect. I.e. inability to handle 4 cams at hi res. try 3 cams....if it handles three, then the Zosi unit can't handle 4 set at high res.

can you log into individual cameras and look thru their menu's?
