Cameras not recording

Hello all I am new to Blue iris,
Using a trial version bi5 now and when I close Bi, the cameras stop recording, do I have to keep it running all the time? What setting is keep it run even close the bi5 window? Thank you very much!

Yes, BI needs to be running 24/7.

Most of us run it as a service so that it is running in the background. Running as a service is a checkbox in the Settings.

You can minimize BI's window to see a clear Windows desktop but....
just a reminder that BI runs best when running on a PC that is dedicated to running only BI.
