Hi there.

As above... the model of my camera is a DS-2DE4A425IWG-E

The reason is (and this is the way i see it pardon the pun) - am i right in saying that the camera's motion detector only picks up motion that actually comes into its view...?

The question was if you were to mount a motion detector that has more range/scope ie if my camera is pointing in one direction the motion detector picks up someone moving from the other direction and the camer spins round to view that target....? does that sound feasible or is that not possible?

Thanks to anyone that can advise!

This is pretty much what is being done now but another camera is used to look at motion in the direction that the PTZ is facing away from and that camera acts as a "spotter" and causes the PTZ to move to a PTZ preset.

@wittaj employs a spotter cam or 2 and interfaces it/them with a PTZ so I'm sure he'll chime in soon. It works well for him. However he is using Blue Iris so not sure how you'd interface that camera-to-camera without Blue Iris.

Thanks for the reply....im kinda thinking back to my old work place where a ptz looked over the car park but, there was a motion detector just underneath that had a 180 deg range so if the camera was pointing the absolute opposite way and some one came through the gate it would literally do a 180 to then zoom in on that...

(Not sure i understand the above) - re-reading currently! - mine does have the newer interface which ive got working (in that it does track stuff) but im pretty sure ive not got it 100% though!!
