Can't reload hikvision firmware with tftp

Hello,

I have read about 20 different threads on this forum and elsewhere regarding my issue, but I cannot solve it:

I have two hikvision cameras, and I cannot load the firmware via tftp, the cameras never even check the tftp server according to the tftp log and wireshark.



  1. I am using tftpd32 server by PH. Jounin(I tried solarwinds also) set to port 69.
  2. I upgraded to 5.2.3 via the web interface and would like to go back to a previous version.
  3. My ip address on my laptop nic is 192.0.0.128.
  4. I tried two different laptops with different brand nics.
  5. I disabled all other network connections including wireless prior to opening tftpd32
  6. digicap.dav is in the same directory.
  7. All firewalls are off and disabled.
  8. I can connect and download digicap.dav using a linux box via a direct cable connection from the tftp server without any problem.
  9. I have tried pressing and holding reset after reconnecting power on for 15 and 30 seconds multiple times.
  10. I have tried unplugging and replugging the cameras about 30 times.
  11. The camera has 192.0.0.64 when it is connected.
  12. SADP confirms that they default back to 192.0.0.64
  13. only one camera is connected to my pc at a time directly with an ethernet cable.
  14. I can connect to the web interface just fine at 192.0.0.64 with no problems.
  15. I installed wireshark and winpcap, and looked for tftp traffic and I never see the cameras searching for my tftp server.
  16. One camera is the 3mp ds-2cd2432f-iw the other was bought from a different vendor and has no label, but SADP says it is the same.

I've never got tfpt32 to play nicely... so use the original one (instructions are inside) :D

If this doesn't work then try with a cross over cable.

You Sir, are amazing, if anyone reads this, SolarWinds, nor TFTP32, servers worked, where this original one worked within 30 seconds of me connecting it the same way. I spent 2 days with the other ones because forum posts said they "should work"

If I have time, I will look into why this did not work with the other ones and report back.

I'm also having trouble, but of a different kind. I also never got tftp32 to see the cam, but this original version did see it.
It just never displays system update completed.
This is the log:

Firewall is disabled and obviously pc and cam see each other. The cam is a DS-2CD6412FWD-30 with firmware 5.1.0 and I have tried flashing 5.1.6 and 5.2.0 from hikvisioneurope.com

Any help is much appreciated.
 
After the 'Completed file' it can take 5 mins before the 'system update completed' appears ... are you waiting ?

But the question arrises as to why you are having to use TFTP .. is the camera bricked ?
 
I have waited up to 30 minutes... I figured that should be enough time...

I want to upgrade a cam with chinese firmware to english firmware.
 
I had the same issues with never seeing "update completed" recently. I waited and waited and it seemd to eventually start the whole process over again and load the firmware more than once in a loop so I just had to guess as to when it was time to close the software. I guessed correctly two out of three times, the time I messed up I had a major brain fart and instead of closing the software I unplugged power from the camera. Yeah, that did not work so well.

I was testing newer firmware with one of the higher end PTZ cameras too so I was glad I was able to recover from that! :joyous: Also, when it was all said and done I had to put it back on original firmware, every newer firmware had issues once it was on the camera. One of them the camera worked fine other than all PTZ functions did nothing at all. That seems like a dealbreaker in PTZ firmware to me anyway.

Yep

Try what Razer says above, and if that fails I suggest contacting member CBX and in exchange for some beer vouchers he may well be able to help you out of the misery :D
