Can't see IP camera on DVR after switch restart.

Hello,
When I add for the first time the camera on the DVR, I can see it on both DVR and Hik-Connect. But if the switch is turned off, for example, after turning it on, the camera cannot connect to the DVR.
But I can still see it with ConfigTool software. Is there something wrong in what I do? Because I don't think it's normal to remove and add again every IP camera just because the switch disconnects.
I have the following setup:
DVR iDS-7108HUHI-M1/S (allows up to 4 IP cameras)
IP Camera IMOU IPC-S3EP-5M0WE-0280B
Switch PFS3005-5ET-L-V2

This is how they are connected:
  • the DVR is connected to the router
  • the switch is connected to the router
  • the camera is connected to the switch.
The camera has static IP.

Since the switch is not POE and the camera is not POE (is powered by 12VDC wall wart) can you just bypass the switch (plug camera into router)?

I need to use the switch because I plan setting up more cameras. What's the cause of the problem?
Until you move or replace something you won't likely find out.
Since you say the cam's IP is static can you try another unmanaged switch?

I have 2 switches of the same type. What's puzzles me is that the cameras can be seen with ConfigTool.
But I don't understand what happens inside. Is it that when I remove the camera from the switch and put it again the camera receives another address but it not updated on the DVR so the DVR can't see the camera? I don't know so much networking.
Do you think a managed switch would solve this problem?

Sometimes when we have an issue and are rushing to fix it, we miss the obvious minor change in an IP address.

Post a screenshot showing the IP address it finds in Config Tool

Post a screenshot of the camera summary page showing the IP address the NVR thinks it is

Post a screenshot showing the IP address in the camera GUI

Post a screenshot from the router showing the IP addresses of the devices connected to the router

I suspect when you see those three, you will see the IP isn't the same.

Since you have the cameras going thru the router, weird things can happen and it may be overriding the static from the camera and assigning it a different IP.

Is it that when I remove the camera from the switch and put it again the camera receives another address but it not updated on the DVR so the DVR can't see the camera?
If the camera's IP is truly configured as static then no, there's no update by the router and the IP should not change.
Do you think a managed switch would solve this problem?
No, not unless the unmanaged switch in play is defective.
Have you tried the other switch?

This is all I got:
  • a screenshot with camera summary page showing the IP address the NVR thinks it is
  • a screenshot showing the IP address it finds in Config Tool
  • a screenshot from the router showing the IP addresses of the devices connected to the route
If I try to acces the camera with a browser, eg , I have no data.

Is it the 201 or 202 camera you are having trouble with?

Are there any wireless devices on the router that were given the IP address of the camera?

Yes, 201 and 202 are the cameras.
I have a photo with all the devices connected on the router, so there is nothing else with the same IP.

Seems to be a head scratcher.

As suggested, try a different switch. Even better is connect the DVR and POE switch to the same switch and then to the router.

I think there is something going on with the router that is messing this up. Or it is a faulty switch.

But no a managed switch is not needed and only adds complexity.

Does it matter if the switch is a regular one, nu a POE switch?

The switch you listed in post #1 is a NOT a POE switch and the camera you listed is NOT a POE camera so "no" it should not matter.

I'm tapping out.

I tried with another switch (same model) but no change. If I unplug the camera's ethernet cord from the switch and plug it again, the camera isn't recognised by the dvr.
I also tried to put a switch after the router and put the dvr and the camera in that switch but same problem.
I will buy another router and switch to see if that solves the problem.

I made another test. I deleted and added the camera in 2 different ways: one by using the "Add" option, the other using "Quick Add".
When I used "Add", the camera didn't connect, but using "Quick Add" it worked. Using that option also showed a Mac Field, which I cannot edit when adding a camera manually, using "Add" option.
