I have a hikvision cctv system to install at my home. I already installed the same system at work, but this was only indoor cameras in a false ceiling, so was easy to do. All the camera are wired directly to nvr ports and the nvr is direct into a router.
At home I want to mount 3 to 4 cameras at soffit height. I've watch a few videos and will give this a try, but not being good with heights may get someone to help. I also want to put 1/2 cameras lower down and perhaps one near the front door. This would be more difficult as I would want the cables hidden? Is it best practice to run cables the up the wall cavity? If so it this easy to do? How do you fish them up to the attic? I suppose could run the cables externally up to the sofit and tack to mortar, if the cavity isn't possible.
I also have questions with networking and cable runs and where to place NVR. I've read the attic is not a good place to put the nvr due to extreme temps. Is this the case, or is this advice for hotter/colder countries (I'm in UK)?
I've been thinking I could put a wifi repeater, such as a beryl ax, or powerline adapter in the attic and a poe switch. Would this set up work? if so it would save me drilling holes and running cables all over the house and would give me the freedom to place the nvr pretty much anywhere.
I hardly ever use the actual nvr and screen at work, I just use the web interface. The hikvision web interface requires an addon that it asks if you want to run it every time you boot up, which is annoying, so I may get a cheap mini pc such as a firebat n100 just for CCTV use.
Apologies if I've waffled a bit and sorry as I wasn't sure if my question should be in camera or nvr forum. Many thanks if you can offer any advice.
