I am pretty new to home security. I wanted to build out a PoE setup with 7 IP cameras so that I don't have to do any battery maintenance and I won't need to worry about my WiFi signal at each corner of the house.

The issue I am having is that my HDD storage is not sufficient, however I have access to storage offsite.
My question is essentially, would it possible to record and sync on the NVR and then the off site cloud storage lets say from day 15 to day 30?

I should also mention that this NVR will not be hooked up to a computer.

Hi @POE702, you are asking some good questions, but to be able to provide proper advice, we might need some more details:
- you choose for POE, which is a smart move: 1 cable for both data and power. But you don't want to do any battery maintenance? You mean on the cams? That's true, but if your NVR with POE or NVR plus POE switch fail (eg power cut), you loose your footage anyhow. So counting in a "UPS" (for NVR/cams) is also a smart move, thèn you don't need to worry about any battery maintenance.
- you mention "no wifi problems": that's the best move: cables are fine!
- you mention "not enough hdd space": if there is one thing that is "cheap" (per GB), then it's hard disk space. Now the good news: some NVR can host more than 1 hdd, so plug in your current hdd, and when time is ripe, you can install 2nd (3rd etc). The more the merrier! But take into account: if you split your footage on the disks, you split the risk, having all on 1 disk and that disk crashes: you're up for a ton of footage lost.
- you mention "cloud sync": many NVR do have an (s)ftp option to offload data. But keep in mind that this impacts your recording schedule (I personally do 24/7 recording with markings on IVS). But by doing this (s)ftp to an FTP server with "data rotation", you can store "more" than in your local NVR.

Hope this helps!

This is all very useful information you have provided me with catcamstar, i really do appreciate this. So to be a little more detailed should also mention that the capacity of this NVR storage is 8TB, however even by adjusting the camera settings to record low yet acceptable images, it does not hold the 30 days. My reason for wanting to know if it is possible to offload data to an offsite location is because i have future plans with the same setup and same type of equipment. Not only based on cost, but allot more things were factored in, hence why I decided to go with this package.

Now that I have covered all of that, I should also note that the web portal setting does not have a storage option to chose multiple locations ( no FTP option). I just feel there must be a way to circumvent this hurdle I'm faced with.

Thanks again for your help

Hi @POE702, it would help if you stated NVR model/type and brand to give concrete advice!

Maybe your NVR does not have (s)FTP or Samba share export, maybe your cams can do it "directly". Maybe your cams can host the footage on an (inhouse) SD card which is accessible through your network. So maybe you can have an external system (even a raspberry pi can do it!) "download" the footage.

All depends on brand/model/mark of your cams/NVR...

My dahua gear can do all this!

Hope this helps!
